We are Shannon and Melanie Heim and live in Clarksville, Tennessee. In July of 2018, our best friends, Bri, Ryan and their 4 children had come to Tennessee from Colorado to visit us for a week. It has been a few years since we had seen one another, and we were thrilled to have all our kids together and to make some summer memories. We made plans for July 28th, their daughter Avery’s 3rd birthday,
to head to Pennyrile State Park Beach in KY, about an hour away, to swim and have a picnic to celebrate. The day started out wonderfully, as all the kids were happy, swimming, eating, laughing, and building sandcastles. I remember so much laughter that day, lots of jokes, silliness, and photo taking. Kinsley, who was 4 at the time, somehow took her life jacket off and went into the water without any of us seeing in a span of seconds. Our two young sons, who were 10 years old, are the ones who found her in the water. They thought they had found a log, but it turned out to be Kinsley. She was rushed to the shore and panic mode for all of us set in. She was given CPR by several of us, and then, what seemed like an eternity, the paramedics came and continued to work on her. After many attempts to save her, the paramedics said that there was nothing left to do and that she was gone. The remainder of that day seems like a blur, and then my memory jolts and I can see it like it was yesterday all over again. These painful memories are why we are doing what we are doing. Since that day, we have fought to educate others, we have put our own children through ISR, we have tried to do positive things with the tragedy. It can happen in seconds. It can happen to you. The Kinsley Lynch Foundation was created to educate so no family will have to go through what we did that day.
