❤️‍🩹 CAN YOU HELP A SINGLE REFUGEE DAD RECOVERING FROM HEART SURGERY?? ❤️‍🩹

Friends, my heart is so heavy for our friend Carlos.

Carlos is a refugee and single dad raising his daughter, and he has become very dear to my family. He works hard as a janitor at one of our local schools. 🧹

Just one week ago, Carlos underwent open-heart surgery.

He thought he had paid time off and would be paid today so he could pay rent. But today, when he checked his bank account, there was no paycheck. 😔

He contacted HR and learned that he had no paid time off remaining. They told him that in order to earn more vacation time, he has to return to work—but his doctor won’t clear him to return for another month. ❗

Carlos even told us he wanted to go back to work now because he is so worried about paying his bills. But he is only ONE WEEK out from open-heart surgery, with an incision still healing in his chest. He simply cannot safely go back yet.

And now his housing is at risk. And his resettlement agency has no funds to help him.

We have just THREE DAYS to raise his $1,400 balance.

Then we need to raise another $1,400 by November 1 to keep him and his daughter safely housed while he finishes recovering.

Can you help us carry this family through the next few weeks?

Ms. Carol* is an elderly woman in her sixties and is dealing with a myriad of health issues including congestive heart failure. 🏥

After a tumultuous couple of weeks, she is now safely housed in a padsplit after a move and inadequate furniture. 🛏️

However, her assistance doesn’t come in until next week!

Seven kids need us to step up TODAY!

Lakeisha* is a mom of SEVEN who has been very sick with sickle cell anemia, in and out of the hospital. This morning, she called me after her husband abruptly left the family and moved out of state. She said he must have gotten tired of caring for her while sick. ☹️

Now Lakeisha is facing the terrifying reality of trying to care for seven children while sick—and keep a roof over their heads on her own.

The family is currently living in a hotel, which costs $500 per week because of their family size. They urgently need help to stay off the streets this morning.

❤️ If just 6 people give $63, we can cover their hotel for the week and give this mom a little breathing room while she figures out what comes next.

Right now, we have a refugee single mama of four who needs rent assistance ASAP before her apartment files for eviction.

We have families who are hungry. Moms who can’t afford essential medicines— and the list goes on.

From Ellie Maya: 🎉 IT’S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH!! AND I HAVE BIG NEWS: A $10,000 MATCH!!!! 🎉

As I celebrate my 36th birthday this month, I have a lot weighing on my heart.

I have dear immigrant friends living in the agony of seeing family members detained by ICE- and fearing that they may be next.

I know refugee families struggling to get by after losing food and medical assistance.

I know single moms going through evictions because they got sick and missed work.

I know children who are at risk of sleeping outside because their parents can’t afford another night in their hotel.

I have friends who are hungry. Friends who can’t afford the medicines they need. Families who are doing everything they can and still unable to afford basic necessities.

All this to say: I HAVE WORK TO DO. Big, important work. ❤️

So this year, my birthday wish is to raise $10,000 to help these families! Though my actual birthday isn’t until September 15th, I am starting early because ‼️🚨RENT IS DUE TODAY🚨 and we don’t have time to wait!

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! Some generous donors have collectively offered a MATCH!! That means EVERY DOLLAR donated through this Saturday September 6th will be MATCHED up to $10,000! 🎉
