🔑 Oklahoma parents and educators — there is something you need to know about this school year.

In February 2026, Governor Kevin Stitt signed Rain's Law — House Bill 1484 — into law. It passed the Oklahoma Senate unanimously.

Rain's Law requires Oklahoma schools to provide instruction on fentanyl abuse prevention and drug poisoning awareness for students in grades 6 through 12. Schools may partner with approved organizations or trained individuals to deliver the instruction.

The law is named for Rain Reece — a 19-year-old Cameron University student who died in 2023 after taking what she believed was an anxiety medication. The medical examiner confirmed she had taken a Xanax laced with fentanyl — a single pill containing two and a half times the minimum lethal dose of the drug. She was found in her dorm room the next morning, her schoolwork still open on her computer.

Her mother, Karla Carlock, fought for this law so that no other family would have to receive that call.

Rep. Ronny Johns, the bill's House author, said the idea came to him when he and his family reflected on how many of his former students had died from fentanyl overdoses during his more than three decades as an educator and principal.

🚨Most people have heard the word fentanyl. Far fewer understand what it actually is.

Here's what the DEA and NIDA want you to know:

🔹 Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid — 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than he**in.
🔹 Just 2 milligrams — smaller than a grain of salt — can kill.
🔹 It is being mixed into other drugs and pressed into counterfeit pills that look exactly like real prescriptions.
🔹 People are often completely unaware that fentanyl has been added to what they are taking.

There is no way to see it. No way to smell it. There is no safe amount from an unknown source.

🚨 Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day.

And the DEA wants every community in America to understand this:

Fentanyl is the leading cause of death for adults ages 18 to 45. It is hidden in counterfeit pills, disguised as something safe. Just 2 milligrams — smaller than a grain of salt — can kill.

Many people had no idea what they were taking. They didn't get a second chance.

This day exists because families across this country decided that silence was no longer an option. It is a coordinated day of awareness by grassroots organizations and families who have been directly impacted — standing together to make sure no more lives are lost to something that could have been prevented.

🍺 Here are four things about underage drinking that most people don't know — and every parent and educator should.

🔹 Everyone processes alcohol differently. Some people feel the effects after one drink. Others do not notice anything until three or more. There is no universal "safe" level — especially for a developing brain.

🔹 Any amount of alcohol is risky for young people. Research shows that children who drink at a young age are more likely to use other substances at higher rates when they become older. (NIAAA)

🔹 Alcohol is a depressant — it literally slows the brain. It affects the hippocampus, which controls memory and learning, and the frontal lobe, which controls decision-making and personality — both of which are especially vulnerable during adolescence.

🔹 Starting young dramatically increases the risk of alcoholism. A person who starts drinking at a young age is more likely to develop alcoholism — a chronic condition where recovery lasts a lifetime. (NIAAA)
