There are a few questions about the new membership eligibility and hoping that maybe this will help.

In the center, you have the person under whom you will join...male or female.
If they are alive, they must be current members of the American Legion. If they're deceased you must be able to verify their service during the approved eligibility dates.
Let's call them JOHN and JANE.
If you are the grandparent, spouse, parent, sibling, child or grandchild of either JOHN or JANE, you can join the American Legion Auxiliary.
If you are an eligible female veteran or female active duty service member, like JANE is, you can join the ALA under your own service. You do not have to be a Legionnaire in order to join.
This is not true for male veterans or male active duty service members like JOHN. He CAN join the American Legion but he CAN NOT join the ALA under his own service. HOWEVER.......he can join the ALA if he is the grandfather, father, brother, son or grandson of an eligible veteran or living Legionnaire.
This also means that any man that qualifies for the SAL can join the ALA, with the exception of step family.
And before you ask, YES, we will need to change our governing documents again, woohoo! Much love peeps!

Thirty-three years to the day after her passing, Doris Moore was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for her service with the legendary 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the only all-Black, all-female unit to serve overseas during World War II.
Known as the "Six Triple Eight," the battalion tackled a staggering backlog of 17 million pieces of mail destined for American troops. The Army estimated the job would take at least six months, but the women completed it in just three, helping restore morale for soldiers and sailors serving overseas.
A Portsmouth, New Hampshire, native, Moore later became the state's first Black social worker after earning a master's degree through the GI Bill.
Moore's legacy—and the extraordinary achievements of the Six Triple Eight—continue to inspire generations.
