Started an exciting new project this past week! The Book Witch is helping NewPath refresh their Central Campus library! Over the next few months we’ll be clearing out old books and bringing in fun, new, representative titles for the students & turning the space into a book nook for the kids- we’re thinking a “cozy dragon book lair” theme. If you have any decoration ideas or know anyone who could donate artistic skills or materials for decorations please DM me! Shout out to Michelle who started this library for the kids & manages it all by herself on top of everything else she does for the school! 💕🧙🏼‍♀️📚

True story: A good Book Witch loves a wild garden 🌱🪾🪻

Always a treat to do a book drop at Civic Garden Center (CGC) . Stopped by for a 2nd visit to share some books for their Lil’ Sprouts programming. Lil’ Sprouts is a free program for kids ages 3 to 8 offered all year long to foster a love of the outdoors. The Book Witch provided lots of book magic on topics like butterflies, gardening, exploring the outdoors, seeds, and many more! 🧙🌱🌰🐿️

If you’re an organization, classroom or program looking for books reach out! Email and Book Request Form are linked in the bio.

Flew on over to NewPath to deliver some representative books for their campus library! New Path, or St. Joseph Orphanage as they are formerly know, has been helping children and families throughout Cincinnati for over 190 years! They provide foster care, behavioral health, specialized education, and youth support services that change the course of children’s lives. It has been great fun working with New Path’s own 📚 🧙 Aurore Byrd and I’n excited to work together to cook up more ways we can get more books in the hands of New Path’s kids!

Thank you to thebookdad for donating a whooping 461 books! The Book Witch will put these to good use!

She was and always will be The Book Lady, the original Book Witch & one of the inspiration’s for this little Book Witch to start her dream project. I wholeheartedly agree- no such thing as too many books! 📚✨📚💕📚

Did a little book buying yesterday. A young woman with curly hair pulled back in a messy bun was checking me out and when she saw this book she paused and said “I wish this book was around when I was a kid.”

I got the implication. She was once a young girl with big, curly hair and maybe all she saw in movies, books and magazines were girls with silky straight hair. Or, maybe someone teased her for having “frizzy” hair. Or, maybe she thought that her hair was not “the norm” and she felt conscious about it. Or, something else. Or, all of the above.

This is why the Book Witch focuses on representation. It’s hair, it’s skin color, it’s ability, it’s who you love, it’s how you express yourself, it’s where you were born, it’s your culture, and on and on. Seeing yourself represented in stories, especially at a young age, helps you feel seen and normalizes, to yourself and to others, whatever it is about you that makes you unique. It chips away, bit by bit, at the discomfort and fear at the root of othering one another.

Wherever I end up putting this book, I hope a kid with big ol’ hair snatches it up and loves every second of reading it.

Book: Frizzy (graphic novel)
Author: Claribel A. Ortega

It’s back to school season & this Book Witch has been getting ready stocking books! I flew on down to to organize & restock their Lending Library. The Lending Library is a free library in the school where kids can find a book, take the book, bring it back (or not), repeat. Excited for the kids to see all the fun selections the Book Witch delivered!

This Lending Library is actually a part of the Book Witch origin story. My kids go to this school & last year I took over managing the Lending Library. It had seen a little love over the years, but was in need of a some major TLC. I began bringing in new, fun, representative books every week and the kids absolutely raided the shelves every time. And, this is in a school that has a good library & most teachers have their own classroom libraries! I realized how great the demand was, so I decided to try to meet it. Thus, the Book Witch was born in all her witchy book magic!

If you’re school would like books for classrooms, events or to set up your own Lending Library reach out! Email me or fill out the Book Request Form linked in my profile.

Last Friday the Book Witch flew on over to NewPath to tour their central campus and learn about the incredible work that they do for kids in Cincinnati. So excited to partner with them (& to see the inside of this very cool old build that looks like it could be an academy for witches. Perhaps….book witches 🧙🏼‍♀️📚)!
