Thank you to Aaron Parker and the Aiken students for your time, skills, and willingness to learn! Also, thank you to the goats for making guest appearances; unfortunately, they cannot help much due to their lack of thumbs.

See you next school year!

May has been a wonderfully busy month for Urban Wilderness (OH)!

We have had field trips with Cheviot School, Gamble Montessori School, The Wellington School, Delhi Middle School, Rockwern Academy, Winton Woods, and Covington Catholic High School. We also participated in a canoe training event with RiverTrek.

Our May build with North Avondale Montessori was a blast, and we are finishing up a great build with Nagel Middle School.

Urban Wilderness still has a field trip with the Spencer Center to look forward to, and then our team will make the journey up to Camp Kooch-i-ching in International Falls, MN for the summer!

Thank you so much for another school year filled with successful builds and outdoor adventure!

On the second day of our boatbuild with Aiken High School, Urban Wilderness took part in an Earth Day celebration with the students. Talawanda High School agriculture students and Kroger ambassadors also participated in the beautiful day!

The day’s events included touring the Aiken student garden and farm, eating honeysuckle nectar, seeing the progress on the Shuman Urban Wilderness Center, learning about agriculture career opportunities, and building a canoe with our program.

Thank you so much to Aaron Parker for organizing the event and for being such a wonderful friend to Urban Wilderness!

Our very first Urban Wilderness field trip of April was with the Zoo Academy students and teachers, so they get to bring this month of posting to a close!

The outdoor adventure consisted of wilderness first response training, fishing, and canoeing on Burnet Woods Lake. As usual, our team had a great time with the curious and respectful Zoo Academy pupils! A special thank you to Katie Kemme for her continuous support and friendship.

If you want an outdoor adventure of your own, contact [email protected]!

The New School Montessori 5th and 6th graders had a blast on their April field trips!

The students had the opportunity to learn to fish and paddle their handmade boats while enjoying the sunny day. The canoeing was smooth, the water was warm, and there was some fishing success catching catfish and bluegill!

Thank you so much New School Montessori! Urban Wilderness is excited for the next adventures with you!

Thank you for such a unique boatbuild!

We love when schools want to get creative with their boats, and the Urban Wilderness team is always excited to make those design dreams come true.

Introducing the Awaken at Aiken “Bean Boat”! It is a canoe for all the coffee lovers out there! The boat even features coffee grains mixed into the skin…

If your school or organization wants to get creative with us, contact [email protected] (OH) or [email protected] (MN).

Happy April from Urban Wilderness! 🌸🌻🪻

Our Cincinnati team kicked off the month boatbuilding with New School Montessori’s 6th graders and field tripping with their 5th graders. We also had a wonderful field trip with the Zoo Academy and a great build in the Columbus area with The Wellington School.

Currently, half our team is building at Aiken High School while the other half is building in St. Louis.

The Urban Wilderness April finale will be an outdoor adventure with Rockwern Academy!

Thank you so much to our community, and we are so excited for the rest of the month!

If you are interested in our remaining April / May scheduling, contact [email protected] (OH) or [email protected] (MN).

At the end of March, Urban Wilderness completed a Chicago canoe build at the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County in conjunction with Lake Forest Open Lands’ Center for Conservation Leadership.

The youth were very receptive to the canoe building process, and they were not afraid to dive in and get their hands dirty every step of the way. Thank you so much to the hard-working students; you made us smile every day, and it was a pleasure to get to know each of you! Additionally, we are so appreciative of the Boys & Girls Club staff who helped our team members throughout the build!

Thank you to Lake Forest Open Lands and Julia Lunn for your friendship and shared love of the outdoors! Urban Wilderness looks forward to all our future endeavors together!
