🔥 Do Tiny Homes on Wheels Need Fire Sprinklers?

One of the most common questions we get is whether a Tiny Home on Wheels needs a fire sprinkler system.

The answer is: it depends on how the home is classified, where it is being installed, and what the local jurisdiction requires.

A true THOW built to an approved tiny home/RV standard is not always treated the same as a conventional site-built house under the residential code. In some jurisdictions, sprinklers may not be required. In others, especially when a tiny home is being permitted for use as an ADU or permanent dwelling, the local building or fire authority may require additional fire-protection measures.

That’s why we never recommend assuming.

At Tiny Home Associates, we look at the actual jurisdiction, intended use, fire zone, construction standard, and permit pathway before determining what applies.

✅ THOW classification matters
✅ ADU vs. temporary use matters
✅ Local fire code matters
✅ WUI/fire-hazard areas can change requirements
