Our local theater community is the best!

I saw PAPA’s Anastasia at the Fort Columbia Theater this past weekend, and I walked out reminded—again—of just how much talent we have in this community. We’re a small place, but the level of artistry that shows up on our stages is anything but small.

The cast was exceptional. Truly. The voices were beautiful, expressive, and full of heart. You could feel how much care went into every musical moment. It’s the kind of singing that makes you proud to live in a community where people show up and give this much of themselves.

The production design was just as impressive. The lighting and sets were clever and incredibly versatile, shifting the world of the show in ways that felt fresh and imaginative. And that train scene—unforgettable. The use of projections throughout the show was thoughtful and added so much depth. They didn’t just decorate the stage; they expanded it.

As a board member of another theater company here, I love seeing our groups lift each other up. Peninsula Players and PAPA share audiences, volunteers, performers, and a whole lot of heart. When one of us puts something beautiful onstage, it strengthens the entire arts community. Anastasia is a perfect example of that—proof of what happens when creativity, collaboration, and community pride come together.

It’s a joy to celebrate the work happening across our stages. PAPA has created something truly special, and I’m grateful to be part of a community where we all support each other and keep raising the bar.

If you haven't seen it yet, this weekend is your last opportunity!
