What have we been up to? Nothing unusual. Just watching something magical unfold in Flagstaff, Arizona 😊. Last month, our team had the honor of traveling to Coconino Health and Human Services to watch the grand opening of their Indigenous children's play space.

🌟 A huge shout-out to Duane Koyawena Arts and Chelsie Begoody for truly making this space come to life with their Diné and Hopi-inspired mural. Read the full story at the link in our bio!

🌱 The Family Spirit Program is an evidence-based and culturally tailored home visiting intervention delivered by Native American paraprofessionals as an Indigenous solution to supporting caregivers during pregnancy and early childhood.

🪶 Family Spirit is also the first program to provide clear evidence of the effectiveness of paraprofessionals as home visitors to impact behavioral and mental health disparities. The use of Native paraprofessionals is essential in reservation communities where there is a shortage of nurses and cultural barriers to non-Native home visitors.

🌎 This in home parent training and support program has been designed, implemented, and rigorously evaluated by the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health (CIH) in partnership with the Navajo, White Mountain Apache, and San Carlos Apache tribal communities since 1995. It is now replicated nationally and adopted globally across Indigenous communities in three countries: Aotearo (New Zealand), Australia, and Canada.

🌿 As Family Spirit took root in diverse Indigenous communities, it didn’t simply transplant—it transformed. Māori practitioners in Aotearoa (New Zealand) infused the program with concepts from te ao Māori, creating Kāinga Ako. First Nations communities in Australia wove in on-Country learning and language revitalization. Canadian First Nations centered land-based practices and intergenerational knowledge sharing. Each adaptation strengthened the original root, revealing universal Indigenous truths about child-rearing, cultural connection, and community healing that transcend any single program. Family Spirit continues to scale and evolve-now reaching more families than ever before and becoming stronger with each cultural stream that enriches it.

🌿 This , we honor the sacred ways breast milk nourishes your baby’s mind, body, and spirit. Breastfeeding is more than nourishment—it is a connection to your baby through culture, family, tradition, and the generations who came before us.

💛 Milk is medicine. Culture is medicine.
Let’s celebrate Indigenous motherhood and the many ways mothers nurture the health, strength, and future of our children.
