Since 1982, the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts has been a community partner to end hunger. We provide healthy and culturally responsive food directly through our Mobile Food Bank and Brown Bag: Food for Elders sites and through the 169+ member food assistance network in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties. These independent pantries, meal sites, and shelters are on the front l

ines, providing food and other resources to individuals, families, seniors, children, and people with disabilities, including veterans, so they may lead healthy and meaningful lives. The Food Bank partners on public education and advocacy to eliminate systemic barriers to food security, operating with the belief that everyone has a right to healthy food.

Yesterday's Open House was such a special time! πŸ’š

We had the pleasure of welcoming so many incredible partners, advocates, volunteers, and supporters through our doors for an afternoon of food, conversation, and well deserved recognition. And thankfully the weather cooperated this year (a lot of us remember last year's heat πŸ˜…). At the heart of the event was the chance to honor just a few of the remarkable people and organizations that show up for our mission in such meaningful ways.

This year's award recipients were:
Stop & Shop, Nourishing Impact Award
Ed Malachowski, Volunteer Impact Award
Monte Belmonte, Community-Led Impact Award, presented by Congressman Jim McGovern
Pastor Doyle St. Louis of All Nations Church Pantry, Person of Impact Award

We also heard from our Board Chair, Omar Irizarry, and our Executive Director, Andrew Morehouse, speak more to the work we're doing together across Western Massachusetts. We also got to enjoy food and beverages from some amazing local vendors throughout the evening!

We'd also like to thank yesterday's sponsors:
Alekman DiTusa LLC
PDC Incorporated
Talcott Resolution
Superior Plus Propane
All States Materials Group

To everyone who joined us, thank you for being part of this community and for everything you do. To our sponsors and vendors, thank you so much for helping our Open House be such a success. And to our awardees, your impact is felt every single day! We cannot thank you enough, but we hope yesterday put us one step closer. πŸ™

Looking for good ways to spend some time outside this summer? β˜€οΈ

You should volunteer at the Food Bank Farm! 😁 Shifts are open every week throughout the summer and it's a really fun way to spend a few hours outside doing something that directly supports food access across Western Massachusetts.

Every shift is an opportunity to get your hands dirty and work towards farming real produce that gets distributed to the communities around you. Lee, our Farm Manager, and the rest of the crew out there make it easy to jump in no matter your experience level too.

Sign up for a shift at foodbankwma.org/get-involved/volunteer/ and come see what it's all about! 🌿

What an incredible WMTAN Forum!! 🚌

Last week we held the 4th annual Western Massachusetts Transportation Advocacy Network Forum, and it was so special to see so many people in one room talking about something that shapes so much of our daily lives. Transportation affects everything, including how people access food and other essential resources, and the gaps in our region are real. Addressing them takes time, effort, and exactly the kind of collective action and advocacy that filled that room last week.

We had organizers, advocates, volunteers, managers, board members, legislators, and more all coming together to share ideas, talk through roadblocks (no pun intended πŸ˜„), and imagine a more accessible Western Mass. A huge thank you to Senator Jake Oliveira, Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier, Representative Lindsay Sabadosa, and Senator Jo Comerford for being part of the conversation and for their continued commitment to this work.

Thank you to everyone who joined us despite the heat β˜€οΈ, and a special shoutout to the moderators, panelists, and the WMTAN Forum planning committee pictured above. It was such a fun and informative day.

If you weren't able to make it or want to revisit any of the sessions, our team recorded a majority of the forum this year! Check out the recordings at https://wmtan.org/2026/06/16/recordings-from-the-wmtan-forum/

We know that applying for SNAP can feel confusing or a bit overwhelming, especially with recent changes to the program. But it’s important to know this: SNAP is still a vital program that provides funds to purchase food.

Our team at the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is here to help you navigate the SNAP Program whether you need to apply, have questions about your case, or would like a second opinion about the status of your application.

We can screen you for eligibility and answer any questions you may have. Then, if interested we’ll submit an application for you over the phone. You can reach us at our SNAP referral number, 413-992-6204, or send us a message online.

You can find our online form here: https://www.foodbankwma.org/snap-referral/

SNAP helps individuals and families afford the food they need, and we’re here to make accessing it as simple as possible. πŸ™‚

Have you ever volunteered at a farm before? 🌱

🚨 Today is the Northeast Day of Action, and orgs and advocates across the Northeast are calling on senators to support a stronger Farm Bill. Make sure you join us!

Here's where things stand right now. Last year, Congress passed the largest cut to SNAP in the program's history, stripping $187 billion from a program that feeds 38 million Americans. The House Farm Bill passed in May did nothing to reverse it either. Now the Senate is writing their own version, and it's absolutely crucial that it protects and strengthens SNAP.

We're asking senators to fully restore SNAP funding, reinstate exemptions for vulnerable participants facing work related time limits, and shield states from being forced to cover millions in new costs. SNAP is the most effective anti-hunger program in the country and too many people depend on it for us to just stand by!

It only takes a few minutes to take action with us today. Visit our advocacy platform at https://www.foodbankwma.org/advocacy/action/?vvsrc=%2fCampaigns%2f137950%2fRespond for everything you need to understand the issues and reach out to your senators. Also, we've just incorporated new SMS alerts! If you'd like future advocacy alerts sent straight to your phone, text foodbankwma to 50457.

Consider sharing this message today to spread the word so everyone can take action together! 🀝

We're so excited to welcome back Nourse Farms as a sponsor/vendor at this year's Will Bike 4 Food! πŸ“

Nourse Farms has been with us for a while now and we always love the chance to shout out a local farm that shows up for our community the way they do. If you've been to WB4F before, you already know how great it is to have them out there with us. πŸ™‚ Look at their team shirts!

And as we kick off our June monthly raffle, Nourse Farms is also this month's prize sponsor! Each month leading up WB4F, for every $100 raised, registered participants are entered to win a prize. This month TWO winners will each receive a Nourse Farms prize bundle valued at $50, including a strawberry bag, a Nourse Farms baseball hat, a $25 gift card, and more Nourse Farms goodies! πŸŽ‰

If you're already signed up, get your fundraising going and get yourself in the running. And if you haven't registered yet, sign up at www.willbike4food.org and join us!
