Today marks two years since Dante went home to be with the Lord.

Today, we pause to remember his life, his faith, his music, his laughter, and the countless lives he impacted.

Dante had a way of walking into a room and making it better. He encouraged people to step out on faith, to use their gifts, and to trust God even when they were afraid.

One of the things Dante would often say was:

“You’ve got to give God something to work with.”

Looking back, we realize that is exactly how he lived.

He gave God his voice.
He gave God his creativity.
He gave God his courage.
He gave God his work.
He gave God his yes.

And because of that, his legacy is still speaking.

His voice still echoes.
His encouragement still inspires.
His legacy still transforms lives.

As we remember Dante today, we invite everyone who loved him, laughed with him, sang with him, worked beside him, or was encouraged by him to share some of your favorite memories of Dante in the comments.

Let’s honor him today with love, gratitude, and remembrance.

Sidney Buckner & Youth & Unity

Music has always been in Sidney Buckner.

Raised in the church and shaped under the leadership and legacy of the late Rev. S.D. Durrell, Dante and Sidney’s grandfather. Sidney’s journey began behind the drums. From there, he went on to play for every choir and musical group connected to his home church, faithfully serving wherever music was needed. You can find him there today but he is also mentoring the youth there too!

That foundation led to the creation of Youth in Unity, a community choir that has now been in ministry for 15 years. What started as a calling has grown into a movement, one rooted in faith, discipline, and musical excellence.

Last year, Youth in Unity was recognized with prestigious honors, including Community Choir of the Year, affirming the impact of their work and their consistent commitment to ministry through music.

This legacy matters.
Choir was the heart of Dante Hall’s musicianship, and Sidney Buckner and Youth in Unity reflect that same spirit of unity, worship, and excellence that lives at the core of great choirs.

It is an honor to support this work through the Rising Choir Grant!

Black history is more than moments we remember, it is a legacy we live, carry, and pass forward.

It is built through faith, family, creativity, perseverance, and the courage to keep going even when the road is uncertain. It lives in our stories, our communities, and the generations who continue to build on what came before them.

This month, we honor the past, uplift the present, and invest intentionally in the future knowing that legacy is created one faithful step at a time.

We are honored to spotlight Sondra Young, LCPC, founder of Safe Place Counseling.

Sondra stepped forward in faith to create a space where healing, compassion, and mental wellness are centered. Through Safe Place Counseling, Sondra and her team provides professional, affirming support to individuals navigating life’s challenges—helping people do the brave work of growth, self-discovery, and restoration.

Starting and sustaining a counseling practice takes courage, vision, and obedience, especially when it’s answering a calling to serve others. Sondra’s work reflects the heart of the Do It Afraid philosophy: trusting God, stepping forward even when the path isn’t fully clear, and building something meaningful that serves the community.

We are proud to support her journey through the Do It Afraid Entrepreneur Grant and excited to see the impact Safe Place Counseling will continue to make.

Dr. King reminds us that progress does not require perfection, it only requires movement.

Mama Sally Durrell often shares that Dante would say:
“You’ve got to give God something to work with.”

That belief is at the heart of Do It Afraid.

You move forward even when you’re uncertain.
You trust God with the outcome.
You take the step, even the smallest one—and let faith meet you there.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s entire life embodies the spirit of The Do It Afraid Legacy Fund.

He moved forward in faith even when fear, danger, and uncertainty were present—trusting God to work through his obedience. His legacy reminds us that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to act anyway.

Today, we honor Dr. King’s legacy by continuing the work of courage, obedience, and forward motion, just as Dante lived and believed.

We are honored to celebrate Jaiden Smith, recipient of the 2025 Do It Afraid Scholarship.

Jaiden is a graduating senior from Proviso East High School and is boldly stepping into his next chapter as a Music Performance major with a minor in Art—pursuing his calling with talent, discipline, and faith.

🎓 College Acceptances (so far):
• Jackson State University
• Alabama State University
• Miles College
• Wilberforce University

Jaiden has already been awarded an incredible $225,000 in scholarships, a testament to both his hard work and the doors that open when preparation meets purpose.

The Do It Afraid Scholarship exists to support students like Jaiden—those willing to step forward in faith, trust God with their gifts, and keep going even when the path feels uncertain.

We are proud to support Jaiden as he continues building a future rooted in courage, creativity, and excellence.
