Independence grows through connection.

At Esperanza, we know that building independence starts with having people in your corner. In our Bridge program, supportive relationships between members and staff create a foundation for confidence, growth, and new possibilities.

Whether they’re exploring new interests, practicing everyday life skills, or discovering what they’re capable of, Bridge members are encouraged to take steps toward their goals with the support of a team that believes in them.

Because fostering independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone. It means having the encouragement and tools to take the next step with confidence.

From pumpkin picking to big smiles, we’re making the most of the season and creating memories together! Moments like this year's pumpkin patch remind us how much joy comes from spending time together, exploring new experiences, and celebrating the little things.

At Esperanza, we’re proud to create opportunities for our students and members to learn, grow, connect, and shine all year long.

Bridge is about more than finding a job. It’s about helping young adults discover:

“What am I good at?”
“What do I enjoy?”
“What kind of work interests me?”
“What do I need to be successful?”

Bridge members have opportunities to practice workplace skills, explore career interests, build confidence, and learn how to navigate real-world employment experiences.
Whether it’s learning how to communicate with a coworker, follow a schedule, or completing a task independently, every skill matters.

This October, we’re celebrating Bridge and the possibilities that open up when young adults with disabilities have the support and opportunity to pursue their goals.

At Esperanza, we believe every person deserves access to the supports they need to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Medicaid and SNAP are more than benefits. They can be essential to maintaining health, stability, independence, and connection to the community.

As changes to these programs take effect, families and people with disabilities may face new barriers, confusing processes, and disruptions to services they rely on every day.

We’re grateful to The Arc of the United States for highlighting these experiences and sharing practical steps families can take to protect their benefits.

Cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can sound like policy changes happening far away.

But Medicaid and SNAP cuts are already affecting people with disabilities.

People are losing food benefits, healthcare, and critical services. Others are facing confusing paperwork, delays, and mistakes that can put their benefits at risk.

Read our blog to hear from people dealing with these changes and learn what you can do to prepare now if you receive Medicaid or SNAP. https://bit.ly/47w0NRm

A job can be so much more than a job.

For young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, meaningful employment can create opportunities to:

Build confidence
Develop new skills
Earn a paycheck
Meet new people
Contribute to their community
Gain greater independence

That’s part of what makes Bridge so important.

Through vocational exploration, skill-building, community experiences, and employment support, Bridge helps Esperanza members prepare for the workplace and pursue their own goals.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the talents and contributions of people with disabilities and working toward a world where everyone has a meaningful opportunity to participate in the workforce.

Different abilities. Different strengths. Shared opportunities.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

At Esperanza, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to work, contribute, build skills, and pursue their goals.

That’s why we’re proud to shine a spotlight this month on Bridge NextSteps, Esperanza’s program supporting young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they prepare for greater independence and meaningful employment.

Through Bridge, members build workplace skills, explore career interests, practice navigating the community, and gain hands-on experience that helps prepare them for their next steps.

Because employment is about more than a paycheck. It can mean confidence. Independence. Purpose. Connection.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing stories about Bridge and the people who make it possible.

Follow along and help us celebrate what’s possible when everyone has the opportunity to participate in the workforce.

💙 DSPs are at the heart of Esperanza.

Every day, our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) show up with patience, compassion, creativity, and a whole lot of heart. They support our members in building independence, reaching goals, learning new skills, finding meaningful work, connecting with their community and simply living life on their own terms.

But being a DSP is about so much more than providing support. It’s about celebrating the small victories, encouraging someone to try again, being there on the hard days, and knowing when a fist bump, a laugh, or a little extra encouragement is exactly what’s needed. Our DSPs help make Esperanza a place where every person is seen, valued, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

To all of our incredible DSPs: thank you for everything you do and for the difference you make every single day. We couldn’t do what we do without you!
