Applications for the 2026-2027 Hearing in Color Young Composer Residency are now open!

This residency offers high school to college-aged composers the opportunity to workshop and premiere new choral works while receiving mentorship, community support, and professional development. Hearing in Color and La Caccina maintain our commitment to dismantling inequitable systems of power in musical spaces. Composers who don’t see themselves, their stories, or their communities reflected in the classical canon will be prioritized.

Do you know any young composers who would be a good fit for this opportunity? Visit the link in our bio for details, and send it to a young composer in your circle today!

Our Young Composer-in-Residence, Abisola Toukourou, has already had one world premiere and has another coming at the end of this month!

On January 18th, Abisola’s choral work “Unknown” premiered at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Community Celebration Concert. The piece was performed by .chi with original text by Abisola herself. The Evanston RoundTable wrote, “Her song Unknown... ended the concert on a high note by showcasing her talent as a young composer.”

Coming up next, our partners at La Caccina will present her next composition “Ave Generosa” based on a medieval chant by Hildegard von Bingen at their concert Hildegard Redux on February 28th and March 1st. Don’t miss this exciting premiere—get your tickets now at La Caccina’s website, lacaccina.org.
