๐Ÿ’œ If you could see through the lens of anyone's mind, present or historical, who would it be? What would you want to learn from them? How do you think their influence might change your beliefs? .toy.company 's plushes are excellent vehicles for that discovery of imagination! โœจ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’œ Perspective is something we all lack at some point, but I think the beauty is that it's always within grasp. Stepping into a new point of view can challenge everything we believe. Early last year, when I stumbled into The Misfit Toy Company and their magical plushies with interchangeable, magnetic heads, I saw the embodiment of the kind of emotional education I wished was more present today. โœจ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’œ Each character's namesake is a historical figure who helped shape our world with philosophy, art, music, and much more. Excellent for therapeutic and classroom use for people of all ages, every time a head is switched onto a new body, imagine the life that mind and body might live. What might you share in common? How might you differ? โœจ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’œ With ethically and sustainably sourced materials and practises, it's an awesome small business to support. I was so enchanted when I first saw them that I knew I had to share them with you all! In illustrating the charactersโ€“the bunny, Leonarda, and the giraffe, Laoโ€“I was inspired by the posing of Michelangelo's, The Birth of Adam. However, in this very humble doodle, I wanted to represent the way in which we give life to each other, across time, by daring to learn. โœจ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’œ If you'd like to see what the Misfits look like and maybe give some a home, please check out their profile and website! They sent me two plushes in exchange for this illustration, and I feel so lucky to spread the word. Emotionally educational toys are a resource of gentleness everyone should be able to take advantage of. I hope to draw and experience more in the future! โœจ๏ธ

Since a number of us are going through it, I wanted to share something that restores my faith in humanity-- . As an Autistic person, I love finding meaningful toys. Moodles are plushes that help folks understand emotion. I was super excited to draw my interpretation of what playing with one feels like when they gifted me their Teddy Bear plush! (Swipe in the carousel to see a demonstration of the actual toy!)

By twisting the dial on the top of their head, the face plate turns, displaying a set of two expressions. Each emotion in the set can be viewed by spinning the face around to see the second, for a total of 6--sad, happy, surprised, sleepy, silly, and angry.

Some Autistic folks struggle deeply with understanding what a face is emoting, myself included. It can be incredibly confusing to parse a facial expression layered with vocal tone and body language. Experiences vary greatly among us, not to mention the complex melange of other disabilities that come into play. (hearing loss, vision loss, et cetera.)

Incorporating play and gentleness into translating neurotypical behaviour into neurodivergent understanding meets people of all ages where they are, which is why I love Moodles. The emotional expressions on each plush are well defined, and the mechanism to change them invite discovery while providing opportunities for conversations.
