Chicago Environmentalists is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to change Chicago culture so environmental sustainability becomes a social and political priority. Our Mission is to:

-Change Chicago culture so environmental issues become a social and political priority.
-Help Chicagoans live sustainably by providing a centralized location for all local resources and information related to eco-friendliness.
-Raise awareness and gain support for environmental issues by connecting followers to relevant news and local political initiatives.
-Create a supportive, non-judgmental community that brings together those who care about the earth, so they know they are not alone. We offer an online sustainability community through our Facebook group, which can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/chicagoenvironmentalists

October is mostly cleanups because we're running until the end of the month, but we are offering a plant-based baking class featuring delicious fall flavors too! Are you a reuse queen/king who is concerned about the environmental impact and waste in the fashion industry? Do you enjoy seeing the artistic creations of some of the most creative designers in Chicago? Do you want to go to one of the *coolest* events of the year, while supporting a great environmental cause?!

Trashion Revolution: ICONS ~ The Met Gala of the Climate Crisis ~ is happening 10.10.26! The fourth-annual Trashion Revolution is a "fashion show with a purpose" designed to start conversations about the climate crisis, intersectional issues and - most importantly - solutions - all while inspiring action. It is produced by a young, Chicago-based nonprofit called Triveni Institute that was founded in late 2021. This year's show is a celebration of the most iconic designs and models to walk their runway over the last three years, plus never-before-seen designs for 2026. All designs are created from post-consumer or post-industrial repurposed/upcycled single-use plastic trash.

Join us on Saturday, October 3, for an action targeting the 4015 North Damen Starbucks, from 10:00 - 11:00. We will meet at 10 in the North Center Plaza.

The goals of this action are to:

1. Draw attention to the deceptive recycling claims by Starbucks. Actually, Starbucks uses and discards 8 million #5 plastic cups each day in the US.
2. Demand that Starbucks commit to its own "A Better Cup for All" policy in all of its stores.
3. Implement a nation-wide switch from plastic to paper to-go cups and lids.
End all deceptive recycling advertising.

Chicago Environmentalists is growing, and we're introducing some of our new volunteer team members this month! Sophie L is a new member of our Website Team. She lives in Roscoe Village/Lakeview and works in communications for nonprofits and small businesses. She joined Chicago Environmentalists because she wanted to connect with like-minded people and help make our city greener. She really likes being able to put her tech skills to use behind the scenes for a great purpose! Outside of work, she loves going to shows, crafting, and embroidery, and has too many unfinished projects! She is originally from New Zealand and the UK but now calls Chicago her home! We're happy to have Sophie on our team.

Chicago Environmentalists is growing, and we're introducing some of our new volunteer team members this month! Matt B is a Lincoln Park resident who came to Chicago Environmentalists out of a conviction that environmental issues are among the defining challenges of our lifetime. A software engineer by profession, he saw an opportunity to put his technical background to use behind the scenes, contributing to the organization's website. Outside of work, he enjoys walking his goldendoodle along the lakefront, and spending time outdoors through traveling and camping. We're happy to have Matt on our Website team, and helping out with website research as well!

Chicago Environmentalists is growing, and we're introducing some of our new team members this month! Kiara (she/they) is a member of our Website Research Team, and she grew up in Chicago and has lived here all her life. She has moved around to many neighborhoods here, but currently resides in Bridgeport with her partner. She is a Program Coordinator for Food Access at Plant Chicago, with a background in Geography and Public Health from UIUC. She joined Chicago Environmentalists to meet cool people, but also expand awareness of resources and environmental justice causes on the Southwest Side. She likes being a researcher and developing new pages for the website, especially for Environmental Justice. In her spare time, she likes to read, paint, and take fitness classes at the Latina Sweat Project. We're excited to have Kiara on the team!!
