Here is a miracle…. Long story:
For those of you who have followed Tessa’s story, you know that her start with our organization was a rough one. Our founder is a very active volunteer at Chicago animal care and control, and she met Tessa formerly known as Princesa in the fall of 2025. She came in as a stray a total of four times, the last time was January 2026, which is when she joined our organization. It was communicated to us that she was hit by a car and was not stable needing rescue immediately. We quickly went into action and got her immediately admitted at Vca Aurora where she spent 72 hours in the ICU. We won’t go into details regarding her hospital stay but what we will say is that every person at the hospital fell madly in love with her. In fact, we keep in touch with some of her caregivers, they were thrilled to hear that Tessa was adopted and reunited with her sister.
To back pedal a short time, shortly after we brought Tessa into our organization we were contacted by one of our animal welfare collaborative partners, sharing with us that Tessa’s sister was now at Chicago animal care control as a stray, and her name was Menna. Ironically enough, our founder had just met her and was initially struck by how much she looked like Tessa, later to learn that she was Tessa‘s sister. Our sister organization Dogs are Deserving Rescue brought Menna into their organization and she was shortly thereafter adopted by a wonderful family. Approximately one month ago, we received word that Mennas adopter had inquired about her sister, Tessa. We were told that this family was also interested in adopting Tessa, we were elated to hear this because Tessa had been posted on Petfinder for several weeks with zero inquiries. Not even an email, lots of people have looked at her, but nobody was interested in learning more about her which broke our hearts. We began communicating with this lovely family and over the course of a months timeframe, we exchange pictures and stories, we felt very confident that this would be a match made in heaven. However, we had not yet allowed the girls to meet each other, questions we asked ourselves were….are they really sisters? If they are, did they get along? Would they want to be together? We did not have the answers to these questions until this past weekend! We set up a neutral location for the girls to meet……we pulled into our parking space…..we immediately saw Menna patiently waiting……Tessa jumped out of the back of the car…..Menna saw Tessa first……tail starts to wag…… after Tessa stretched her legs, stood up straight, finally seeing Menna her tails started to wag……as they started walking towards each other, they started to pull and walk quicker…… here was our answer……yes…….they were sisters….yes they wanted to be together……yes…..they definitely got along! In fact, Tessa decided it was very important to clean her sister‘s ears! That was probably one of the most heartwarming things to see. Since this past weekend we have received updates, we are told that the girls are inseparable and that this family has never felt better about the decision that they have made to bring the two girls together! As they walk through the neighborhood, they are greet by friends and neighbors who are congratulating this family for reuniting two sisters that deserve nothing but the best in life! We think it’s a miracle we are grateful to be just a pawn in the miracle of bringing the sisters back together. This time, they’ll never have to worry about if there’s enough food to eat, this time they will never have to worry about their own safety or being abandoned, this time it will be the way it’s supposed to be for all dogs! They will be a part of a loving family that places them at the center! That’s the miracle!
