Congratulations to our Team ChiParks runners, who raised nearly $45,000 for our Chicago parks at the 5th Annual Bank of America Chicago 13.1! 🥳

Public parks need private support. Team ChiParks raises critical funds to support our work to bring community ideas to action. The Chicago Parks Foundation is so thankful to the 52 runners who participated on our behalf this weekend. And shoutout to all of the past and future Team ChiParks marathon runners who completed the half, too! 🏃🏻‍♂️

On May 30th, 350 volunteers joined the Chicago Parks Foundation in celebrating our 11th Annual It's Your Park Day at 35 parks across the city! 🪣🧤

A huge thank you to the PACs, partners, alderpeople, and community members who got outside to a neighborhood park and made an impact on Saturday.

Activities went beyond just trash pick-up and also included planting, painting, gardening, cleanup, cultural performances, food, fun – and lots of hard work!

10 groups mulched trees and 12 groups replenished their playground’s woodchips. Special thanks to Chicago Park District's Mike Brown and the grounds team.

All of these parks are now refreshed and ready for an incredible summer season ahead! ☀️

What makes our parks so special? The people! People truly bring our parks to life.

Did you know May is American Wetlands Month?

Read, Share, Support! 🍃 Check out a throwback Between the Leaves Magazine feature on our friends at The Wetlands Initiative.

Wetlands are a vital proponent of biodiversity, often referred to as the “nurseries of life.” The Wetlands Initiative (TWI) works tirelessly to design, restore, and create wetlands and marshes across Chicagoland, often in partnership with the Park District.

Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month?

Dr. Terry Horton, Northwestern University Associate Professor of Research, stresses the idea of “parks as good medicine.” Through her work, she examines the relationship between our environment and our mental and physical health.

Our 600+ Chicago parks are here for us as resources 365 days a year. As the weather grows warmer and plants grow greener, it’s a great time to get outside for your wellbeing!

Read all about Dr. Horton’s philosophy and research in our Between the Leaves Magazine at chicagoparksfoundation.org/betweentheleaves.
