Join us October 11 at 8:30 PM at Constellation for our first concert in the Chicago Festival of György Kurtág.

We’re excited to introduce your pre-concert talk speaker, Predrag “Pedja” Kovačević, who will help set the stage for an evening exploring the music and world of Kurtág.

Pedja is a Serbian-born musicologist, curator, and concert producer based in Chicago. His musicological work focuses on interdisciplinary relationships between music and literature, theater, painting, photography, and architecture, as well as questions of intertextuality and the ways artistic ideas move between different media. His research has been presented in the United States, Poland, Greece, and Serbia.

Kovačević has examined the presence and transformation of commedia dell’arte elements in music from the Renaissance through the twentieth century, in both instrumental music and opera. His broader research interests include musical humor, intermediality, Deep Listening, electroacoustic music, sound studies, and the creative processes of contemporary composers and performers.

He is the founder of Soundologia, a platform devoted to contemporary and experimental music, through which he combines musicological research, interviews, criticism, curation, and documentation of new music. Through Soundologia, he has also produced and curated the Soundologia Anthology series and the Soundologia Music Festival. He has taught the history of electroacoustic music and introductory sound design at Florida International University’s School of Music.

FEATURED STORY: Julián Pujols Quall + Lorin Benedict

Our new Featured Story on composer, pianist, and improviser Julián Pujols Quall (Julián Pujols Quall ) also explores the distinctive vocal practice of s**t singer and improviser Lorin Benedict (Lorin Benedict ).

Their collaboration explores how language, voice, and character can become part of collective improvisation, with Benedict’s approach moving between speech, invented language, and melodic line.

Their work was presented in Chicago as part of a program curated by Pujols Quall for Fulcrum Point New Music Project (Fulcrum Point New Music ).

Join Fulcrum Point and an incredible group of Chicago musicians for Kurtág @ 100: Chicago Festival of György Kurtág, a celebration of one of the most distinctive and influential voices in contemporary music.

Co-directed by Dan Galat and Liza Sobel Crane, the evening features works performed by Myra Hinrichs, Ilana Waniuk, Dan Galat, Michael Hall, Kelly Quesada, Sasha Ishov, Will Yager, and Jonathan Hannau, with a pre-concert talk by Pedja Kovačević.
