“I want to fight for equality in the bar world and beyond. I want to use my platform to bring forth a legacy of positive change.
“Look to the Sun” is Jakob Kramer-Jensen’s 2019 Bacardi Legacy semi-finalist cocktail. He will be competing in the semi-finals in Puerto Rico in February to compete in the Global competition in Amsterdam. The cocktail is Bacardi Anejo Cuatro, Smoked paprika syrup, lemon juice, egg white, and unrefined sunflower seed oil, served with semi-sweet chocolate and flower petal as garnish optionally(but it’s still just as amazing without it).
The smoked paprika represents hardship and struggle. The sunflower oil and petal signify positive change. The aged BACARDI represents the time it takes to change while adding depth to the drink itself.
Jakob’s mission is to do all that he can to make this industry and world a more inclusive place. A legacy for all including LGBTQ, POC, WOMEN, NONBINARY, and everyone in between to obtain equality. We need to actively fight for inclusion. He will be doing pop-ups across the country as well as selling pins and other merchandise with all proceeds going to organizations focused on helping those groups. He will also use his platform to educate and to be a generally positive force of change. We as bartenders CAN make this world a better place. Together we are powerful. Just like the Bacardi family, we will stand our ground.
Charities donated to include The ACLU, National Black Women's Justice Institute, Planned Parenthood, The Coalition for Prison reform, and Mexican American Legal Defense And Educational Fund.
