With our intense focus on personal narratives, the combined talents of our diverse collective of artists, and the multiple artistic languages with which we communicate, Cerqua Rivera engages audiences in magnetic human stories at once new and deeply familiar. Our season extends spring through fall, culminating in a fall concert series where the year’s new work debuts in full production, performed

by our 8-member Dance Ensemble and 10-piece Jazz Band. We produce a monthly summer series called Inside/Out – new work preview performances and discussions where audiences get involved in the art and get to know our artists. We also perform in community and school settings, partnering with peer organizations and teaching young people about the many influences that have shaped dance in America. All told, Cerqua Rivera engages nearly 10,000 people in a normal year. Our mission: To use multiple artistic forms (primarily dance and music) and the combined talents of our diverse company to convey intense personal narratives. We are proudly and visibly multicultural, exploring the intersection of heritage, culture, and identity through high quality art. Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre proudly presents the 2nd Annual Chicago Latinx/e Contemporary Movement Festival, taking place October 2–3, 2026.

We are seeking Latinx/e creators whose choreographic research and inquiry engage with themes of binational and multi-racial identity, multi-generational experiences, immigrant narratives, identity politics, gender expansiveness, and q***rness within the Latinx/e experience. We welcome proposals from emerging and mid-career artists working in contemporary, q***r, and experimental forms of dance, performance, and movement-based storytelling.

Join us for an evening of bold, dynamic repertory as CRDT II closes the season with works by Shannon Alvis, Monique Haley, Wilfredo Rivera, and a World Premiere by CRDT II Rehearsal Director Bennett Cullen.

CRDT II, the Second Ensemble of Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, bridges scholastic training and the professional concert stage—offering emerging artists the opportunity to deepen their artistry through repertory, mentorship, and performance.
