As students head back to classrooms this Fall, STEAM & Dream is ready to bring another semester of hands-on learning, mentorship, and STEM career exposure to young people across Chicago.

From exploring healthcare and coding to engineering solutions, discovering the power of math, and becoming environmental changemakers, our programs give students opportunities to learn by doing—and imagine where STEM can take them.

🤖 When your personal trainer is made of LEGO… and YOU coded it!

Through our Tech To The Future track, students aren’t just learning about technology—they’re building with it.

Students explored the foundations of coding and programming by building their own LEGO personal trainers, coding their movements, and then putting their creations to the test. 💻🏃🏾‍♂️

It’s hands-on experiences like these that turn coding from something students hear about into something they can build, experiment with, and have fun exploring.

🌱 BIG CHANGE CAN GROW IN SMALL SPACES.

Last spring, we piloted our Planetary Guardian environmental science track across five partner schools, giving students the opportunity to explore sustainability, environmental challenges, and how they can become part of the solution. 🌎

One of those experiences was our Food Deserts & Urban Farming lesson, where students discovered that growing food doesn’t always require a backyard, garden, or acres of land.

Using something as simple as an egg carton, soil, and seeds of their choice, students created their own mini gardens while learning how urban farming can help communities rethink food access and sustainability. 🌱

It’s more than planting a seed. It’s helping young people understand that small actions can grow into meaningful change for their communities and our planet.

Meet students from Perspectives IIT, as they share what they experienced through our Healthcare To The Future program.

From exploring human anatomy and body systems to getting hands-on experience with the tools and skills healthcare professionals use every day, students had the opportunity to experience healthcare beyond the textbook.

And the best part? Some of them already see nursing and medicine in their futures. 💜

Math Comes to Life with Our Future Equation Track

This summer, we're proud to partner with The Academy Group to bring Future Equation to their 4th and 5th grade students through engaging, hands-on math experiences.

Throughout the program, students discovered that math isn't just something found in a textbook: it's a tool for understanding and shaping the world around them. From math scavenger hunts and logic challenges to chess strategy, architecture and geometry, graphing, financial literacy, and kinematics, every lesson encouraged students to think critically, collaborate, and apply math in meaningful ways.

By connecting mathematics to real-world experiences, students built confidence, strengthened their problem-solving skills, and began seeing how math plays a role in careers ranging from engineering and architecture to finance, technology, and beyond.

A huge thank you to The Academy Group for partnering with us to make these learning experiences possible and for investing in the future of our students.

☀️ This summer, curiosity turned into discovery.

We're incredibly grateful to our school and youth-serving organization partners for opening their doors and giving students in grades 3–8 the opportunity to explore hands-on STEM experiences through STEAM & DREAM.

Throughout the summer, students had the chance to:
🩺 Discover the world of healthcare through real nursing simulations and medical tools.
💻 Explore the power of coding by bringing technology to life.
⚙️ Think like engineers by designing, building, and testing creative solutions.
➗ Strengthen their math confidence through collaborative problem-solving and real-world challenges.
🌎 Become environmental changemakers by exploring sustainability, ecosystems, and how STEM can help protect our planet.
