We’re Bringing Back Our “Hey Neighbor!” Community Walk and Talk — and We Need Volunteers!

For years, our community walks have been a simple but powerful way to connect with neighbors, build relationships, and show a positive presence in our neighborhood.

We are preparing to relaunch our weekly “Hey Neighbor!” Walk and Talk, where community members walk and talk together through the neighborhood, greet neighbors, and help strengthen the spirit of community one block at a time.

To make this successful and sustainable, we are looking for volunteers to help plan, organize, and participate.

Volunteer opportunities include:

* Helping plan walk routes
* Welcoming new volunteers
* Greeting neighbors
* Supporting outreach and recruitment
* Helping with safety and follow-up
* Walking with the group each week

Before we officially relaunch, we are inviting interested community members to meet virtually, share ideas, and help shape the plan.

Please do not share or respond to the Tennessee State University / Meharry scholarship flyer currently circulating online unless it can be verified directly through official TSU or Meharry websites.
The flyer asks students to send information to a personal Gmail address rather than an official university email or application portal, which is a significant red flag. Legitimate university scholarships are normally handled through official .edu websites and admissions offices.
Before sharing personal information, families should independently verify any scholarship opportunity directly with the colleges involved.

Dear neighbors and partners,

Thank you for signing up for last night’s meeting. I sincerely apologize for the problems many of you experienced trying to join. Due to an Eventbrite–Zoom access code error, the vast majority of registrants were unable to access the session. I know many of you reached out by email, text, and phone while the meeting was underway — that was frustrating and unacceptable, and I take responsibility for the disruption.

We will reschedule the meeting (date and time to be determined). When we set the new date, I will send a direct Zoom link and dial‑in information so you will not need an Eventbrite code. We will also open the Zoom room 15 minutes early and have tech support available to help anyone who needs assistance logging in.

If you’d like to be notified first when we announce the new date, or if you need one‑on‑one help joining next time, please email [email protected]. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. I look forward to making the rescheduled meeting accessible and useful for everyone.
