We have entered The Red Zone

The Red Zone is the time of year, taking place from the beginning of the fall semester to the beginning of Thanksgiving Break, when the majority of college campus sexual assaults happen. With the majority of University students returning to campus this month, we are beginning to enter The Red Zone.

Join us throughout the duration of The Red Zone for our annual campaign, as we discuss crucial topics related to The Red Zone, such as the social dynamics at play in a college environment, the use of substances, and what options survivors have to get support.

You can learn more about The Red Zone by going to Survivors.org/red-zone/ or by clicking the link on our profile.

Reminder, our new monthly yoga workshop is TOMORROW, August 18th. Join us on the third Tuesday of every month for a Trauma-Informed Yoga session for survivors 🧘

Expect a gentle, trauma-informed session designed to support safety, choice, and nervous system regulation. This virtual practice will emphasize slow, supported postures held from 2 to 4 minutes, with invitational language and options throughout.

This free, virtual yoga practice is gentle, grounding, and can meet survivors where they’re at. We will also engage in other healing activities, such as sound baths and breathing exercises.

Hosted by Julianna Capobianco, our yoga-certified instructor is ready to provide you with beginner-friendly language and poses, options for modifications, and tools that you can utilize outside of the session.

Register for free by clicking the link on our profile or by going to Survivors.org/trauma-informed-yoga-workshop/

Reminder: our BIPOC Healing Circle is this Wednesday! This month’s theme is What is in Your Backpack? Letting Go of What is Weighing Us Down.

As survivors, we can carry so much with us without realizing it. We invite all BIPOC survivors to come as you are and take a look at what you’ve been holding. There are no expectations to share anything, this space is simply here for you to use as you need it.

Join us tomorrow evening as we discuss these ideas together in a safe, supportive environment.

We are excited to share that we are offering a new form of survivor support!

Survivors.org Office Hours will serve as a new space for survivors to have one-on-one conversations with our Director of Survivor Support about their experience as a survivor. It is also a space to discuss finding and navigating resources near you to help advocate for yourself and those around you.

Click the link on our profile or visit Survivors.org/office-hours/ to learn more about what office hours can be used for and to reserve a time. At the time of posting, we have times still available for August 10th, 17th, and 24th.

Reminder: Next Wednesday is our July Trauma-informed Art Workshop. You can register for free on Survivors.org/events/ today and get access to all future Trauma-informed Art Workshops. Be sure to review our community guidelines before joining.

This month, we will be making art that explores how we’re feeling using the weather.

All you will need is something to write with, such as a pen or pencil, and something to write on, such as a piece of paper or tablet. However, we encourage you to use and any all arts and crafts supplies you’d like. This workshop is free, virtual, and open to all survivors 18+ on an open enrollment basis. Come once, or join us every week.

Reminder! We are collecting submissions for our 2027/2028 18 month calendar!

We are excited to share that we are going to be launching another community art project! Survivors.org is collecting survivor-created art to be featured in our upcoming fundraising project, our 2027/2028 18 month calendar.

There is zero pressure to participate, and all funds go towards helping Survivors.org provide resources to survivors at no cost to them. Submit something new, or something you made in the past.

Visit Survivors.org/calendar-2027/ for more information about submitting to our project and to access the submission form.

The messages we are sent as children can have a greater influence on us than we may realize. As we age, it’s important to not repeat the harmful narratives we were taught.

Instead of teaching that aggression is an acceptable way for boys to express affection, we need to raise the next generation to treat one another with respect. Boys need to be told that vulnerability is not a weakness, and emotions other than anger are also acceptable. We should be reminding girls that they deserve kindness, rather than conditioning them to associate cruelty with love.

No one deserves to be treated with disrespect, and they especially shouldn’t be taught that it is normal.

“Rape apologist” is an umbrella term for someone who blames survivors, has a general disbelief in allegations of sexual violence, and participates in the normalization of sexual violence.

Shifting blame, glossing over, sweeping under the rug, looking the other way, remaining “neutral”– all of these are things r**e apologists do that make it significantly harder for a survivor to heal. When they say and do these things, survivors hear what they really mean.

Visit Survivors.org/supporting-survivors/ to learn more about how to respond and support survivors.
