🥧This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re celebrating inclusion at work—and the team members who make our Happy Apple Pie Shop so special.

At The Happy Apple Pie Shop, people of all abilities work side by side, gaining meaningful, hands-on experience in the culinary arts, customer service, and business operations while contributing their talents to the bakery and community our customers know and love.

From preparing and baking pies to serving customers and supporting day-to-day operations, team members have opportunities to build workplace skills, grow in confidence, and become more independent.

Featuring Elizabeth Campos Hamilton, IL ABLE Enrollment Specialist, the session will cover eligibility, how IL ABLE accounts work, qualified expenses, and how families can save while maintaining eligibility for means-tested benefits such as SSI and Medicaid.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of dedicating the new walking path at our Easterseals Academy Machesney Park campus in honor of the late Steve Ellison, whose generosity, service, and unwavering belief in our mission continue to make a lasting impact.

Through his leadership and involvement with the Kiwanis Club of Rockford, Steve helped create a place where students with intellectual and developmental disabilities can move, explore, connect, and thrive. The walking path stands as a tribute to Steve's kindness, service, and willingness to help wherever help was needed.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of the Kiwanis Club of Rockford, Steve's family, friends, and everyone who joined us for this special dedication ceremony. It was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate Steve's remarkable legacy and the difference one person can make in the lives of so many.

May this path serve as a lasting reminder of the spirit, compassion, and possibility that Steve inspired in others.
