1919 Black Sox Scandal is tonight! We’ve got peanuts and Cracker Jacks ready for a night of baseball so are our crackerjack speakers. Rich Lindberg, an acclaimed non-fiction writer with a knack for unveiling the hidden stories and rich tapestry of Chicago's history, meets up with Algren author Richard Bales to discuss the 1919 World Series Scandal, when eight players from the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for bribes from a gambling syndicate Friday, September 12 at 7:00 pm.

Bales will tell you our man Nelson Algren was a fan of the 1919 White Sox as a boy and portrayed the players as victims of owner Charles Comiskey's greed. This narrative influenced later writers and films about the Black Sox Scandal. Rich Lindberg has information showing Comiskey as a generous boss. We’ll learn more Friday evening.

Eight Men Out, the 1988 film by John Sayles starring local actors John Cusack and John Mahoney, as well as Charlie Sheen and David Strathairn, is a good homework assignment before attending our event at our home, the Nelson Algren Museum of Miller Beach at 541 South Lake Street at 7:00 pm. We can actually use the front door to enter since the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District bought the building.

This promises to be an entertaining night if you’re a Sox fan or history buff or neither. Yes, we’ll have peanuts and crackerjacks! Beer and wine will be available for sale.

This event will be held Friday, September 12 at 7:00 pm at the Nelson Algren Museum of Miller Beach, 541 South Lake Street. The cost is $20 at the door.
