As the busyness of the holiday season begins to slow down, we are reminded how meaningful it is to spend intentional time with the people we love most. These moments are what stay with us long after the season ends.

Here in Chicago, The Honeycomb Project creates opportunities for families to spend quality time together through shared acts of service. Kids and parents return to our projects again and again, not just to volunteer, but to build traditions rooted in purpose, care, and togetherness. This is at the heart of Honeycomb’s mission, and it feels especially important right now.

WOW! We are absolutely blown away by your generosity. Despite Chicago’s best effort to turn the city into an icebox, you turned a freezing forecast into something magical. Together, our 25 teams completed 889 acts of kindness and raised and incredible $35,834, filling downtown Chicago with playful joy, cheer, and community connection. Thank YOU!

From hopscotch with strangers to heartfelt gifts for city workers, you reminded us that when families come together to care for their community, the impact reaches far beyond a single weekend. Together, we uplifted our neighbors, strengthened our city, and lived out the culture that defines our Honeycomb hive.

As wonderful as this weekend was, there is still more work to be done. Live From The Holiday Cheer Challenge 🌟🐝

We are celebrating nineteen incredible Honeycomb youth who are leading change and lifting up communities across Chicago. From statewide awards to national recognition to thousands of hours of hands-on service, these young leaders are showing us what it looks like to take action to better our communities.

We also recognized twelve Honeycomb Volunteer Service Award recipients who collectively completed more than 1,500 hours of service this year. That is the equivalent of over nine months of full-time work devoted to serving Chicago communities!

We are thrilled to announce that Tanja Babich ABC7 Chicago's Eyewitness News Anchor, will be joining longtime Honeycomb volunteer and Honeycomb Leadership Corps teen Ava Gresser as this year’s co-Emcee of the Holiday Cheer Challenge!

The pair first met at a Honeycomb volunteer project eight years ago, and now they're taking the stage together! While this is Tanja’s first year joining the Challenge, Ava has been our Emcee for the past five years—since she was just 11 years old. Thank you, Tanja and Ava, for stepping up to make this event so special. 💛

Chicago may be sending us a deep freeze, but this weekend’s Holiday Cheer Challenge will warm our hearts. We cannot wait to honor nineteen extraordinary Honeycomb youth and families whose leadership, generosity, and service will be recognized throughout the event.

The Holiday Cheer Challenge is a joyful way to show your kids the power of community and collective action. Across Chicago, nonprofits are facing rising demand and shrinking resources. Each month, Honeycomb families step up—cooking meals, delivering groceries, and supporting neighbors in need. Together, we provide what local nonprofits need most: a steady, reliable pipeline of volunteers and resources they can count on.

NEW this year! We’re bringing the giving spirit to life at The Holiday Cheer Challenge. During the kickoff celebration, guests can visit our volunteer pop-ups to learn more about Honeycomb’s programs and take part in hands-on projects supporting our six core issue areas: Education, Healthy Food & Basic Needs, Housing, Environment, Health & Wellness, and Community.

Participants can earn extra credit points by:

🐱 Donating nonperishable food with uplifting notes – The Love Fridge
🐾 Crafting cat toys – Tree House Humane Society
📚 Donating books, writing recommendations, and making bookmarks – Little Free Library
🎁 Assembling care kits for moms at local shelters – CAWC
🩺 Creating activity workbooks for pediatric patients – Lurie Children’s Hospital
📦 Donating shipping materials to reducing packaging waste – EcoShip
