Join us this Friday for an Artist Talk with MFA candidate Reevah Agarwaal at 4:30, Student Leadership Suite!

Reevah Agarwaal is a multi-disciplinary artist from New Delhi, India, currently based in Chicago, IL. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2021 and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Fine Art from the same institution. Her work explores memory, cycles of trauma, and complex family dynamics using repurposed textiles and objects that have a personal history. She creates quilts and collages that reference her childhood, family, and the domestic spaces she has lived in. By employing material history and referencing family photographs, she aims to trace the past and reconstruct memories through her artwork. Her work has appeared in various group shows in Chicago including at SAIC Galleries, Free Range, Locus Gallery Show at The Martin, and Member Exhibitions at Spudnik Press Cooperative. She also has permanent public artwork on view in South Chicago and currently works as a Graduate Peer Advisor for Career and Professional Experiences at SAIC, and as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate classes.

Application form is in our bio.

Water, the basis of existence, its free-flowing essence, is present within us. Like water, people take shape and adapt to the places they are displaced into. Our undaunting spirit to adapt and change to our surroundings. Oceans and seas are fed by the mountains where the compressed water remains and stays captured. Once unleashed, it liquefies and spreads, taking over more space, seeing new places, and changing its qualities to adapt to a new world. The same is with humans. Namaste SAIC wants to take this opportunity to explore the South Asian and Southeast Asian migration to the United States. Like water, we are ever-transforming and adapting to our new home.

Come join us for our next Artist Talk by Tanya Malhotra this Tuesday at 5 pm!

Bio:

In an attempt to find humour around her, Tanya Malhotra creates work that is a play on words, figures of speech and sarcasm. She is greatly inspired by the surrealist movement and enjoys creating works that are unexpected, uncomfortable, or create juxtapositions. Malhotra blurs the lines between art and design by integrating technology into traditional practices to create three dimensional, tangible objects that either solve a problem or question one.
