The Night Ministry Providing human connection, housing support and health care to unhoused members of our community.

The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization whose mission is to provide human connection, housing support, and health care to those who are unhoused or experiencing poverty. With an open heart, we compassionately accept each individual as they are and work alongside them to advocate for their immediate physical, emotional, and social needs while affirming our shared humanity. Last year, The Night Ministry served nearly 6,000 adults and young people. Our Health Outreach Program provided 1,638 free health assessments to individuals who struggle to access traditional health care and prevented 383 visits to the emergency room. Our Youth Housing Programs provided 535 unhoused young people and 101 of their children with safe housing and supportive services.

Legacy Thursday: Meeting people where they are, since 2007. Long before mobile health care was widely recognized as a model for reaching people on the margins, The Night Ministry was a pioneer in mobile HIV testing. When we launched the program in 2007, HIV/AIDS was still a serious health crisis, and our unhoused neighbors faced some of the greatest barriers to testing, treatment, and support.
So we brought testing to them: on the street, on the bus, in the places where trust is built one conversation at a time.

From 2014 to 2018 alone, our team completed 2,536 HIV tests. Each one was a chance to connect someone with the care, treatment, and dignity they deserve.
That commitment to bringing health care to our neighbors, wherever they are, is part of our legacy. It's also how we continue to show up today, 50 years in and counting.

Not all heroes wear capes. Some pack lunches. 🥪

Since 2024, Lunch Heroes has donated a staggering 11,000 packed lunches to The Crib, filled with amazing sandwiches, chips, and more. Every one of those meals has meant an important, satisfying lunch for a young neighbor in need.

Thank you, Lunch Heroes, for your generosity and for showing up again and again. You are the real deal! 💙

Legacy Thursday: Empowering Young Families.
What began in 2007 as the Response-Ability Pregnant and Parenting Program (RAPPP) continues today as Parenting with Purpose (PWP), helping pregnant and parenting young mothers ages 16-22 build stable, thriving futures for themselves and their children.

Through safe housing, supportive services, and a family-centered approach, PWP empowers young families with the resources, skills, and support they need to succeed.

Since the program began, PWP has served 892 young mothers and their children, providing an estimated 48,000 bed nights, creating many opportunities for stability, growth, and hope.

Last night, members of our Board of Directors and Associate Board, both past and present, came together at Birch Road in Lincoln Park for our annual Leadership Social.

The evening offered an opportunity to reconnect, reflect on our shared accomplishments, and gather valuable perspectives that will help shape The Night Ministry’s future as we build on 50 years of service.

We are deeply grateful to every leader who has invested their time, talent, and energy in our mission. Their commitment continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of unhoused Chicagoans and people experiencing extreme poverty across our city.

Our Manager of Outreach Operations, Juan Roca, is representing The Night Ministry at the 2026 Annual Mobile Healthcare Conference in Kansas City this week! 🚐

Over three days, Juan is connecting with mobile healthcare leaders from across the country to explore what's shaping access, policy, funding, and care delivery — and bringing back practical strategies to strengthen our outreach work.

It's important that we're at the table helping shape the future of mobile healthcare, so we can keep providing free, compassionate care to our unhoused neighbors and those living in extreme poverty.

Thank you, Juan, for representing TNM and advancing this vital work! 👏

Every Thursday evening, our Case Manager Will meets our unhoused neighbors at the CTA River Forest Blue Line stop.

Alongside our outreach and health teams, Will helps connect people to housing resources, healthcare, and government services — the kind of steady, relationship-based support that can turn a single conversation into a path forward.

Case management isn't a one-time fix. It's showing up, week after week, and walking alongside someone until they're stably housed and connected to the support they need. 💙
