April is here and it’s time to start planning our 5th Annual Race to Walk. In light of COVID-19, we have taken into consideration the challenges we all face today, especially those of our loyal sponsors for the past 5 years and all of you, our supporters. As you are aware, our foundation solely runs on your support. Without your support we would not be able to fulfill our mission. Gratefully, because of your support over the past 5 years we will be able to continue funding grants through our Against All Odds Grant Program to children with AMC that are in need. However, we are not blinded to the impact COVID-19 has had on all of our lives, therefore we will be running our race a little differently this year. We will be hosting a 100% VIRTUAL Race to Walk this year with the hopes of a celebration on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Konow's Corn Maze & Pumpkin Farm just as we’ve done in the past following all of our races. While our race will be run a little differently this year, you will still have the opportunity to support our mission. As we prepare to bring 2019 to a close and head into 2020, we reflect on everything that another year has brought us. Let’s start with an update on our inspiration, Alexandra. Alex is a healthy, thriving seven year old “big” girl. Don’t call her “little” and by no means refer to her as “baby.” She is doing well in First Grade and has an immense love for school, her teachers, her aids, therapists and bus drivers. She continues to work hard three to four times a week with her therapies in strengthening all her muscles and improving her abilities. She saw Dr. Feldman at the Paley Institute in Florida this year and will travel back to Philadelphia to see her doctors at Shriners Hospital for Children later this winter. She’ll undergo surgery in the upcoming months to have rods placed in her back to stabilize her spine that is weakened due to lack of core muscle. Despite it all, nothing holds her back, nothing keeps her down, she remains a happy, very grateful child. She is grateful for “floppy hands and lazy legs.” Grateful for life and all it has to offer. And she has one message for all of us, “Be Grateful.” That brings us to what we are grateful for and that is all of you. Your support over the years enabled us to kick off our Against All Odds Grant Program this past July. Since July, we have provided $6000 in grants to three different children with AMC. Josie, Hunter, and Austin travel thousands of miles to receive care from the doctors willing and able to help them challenge the odds of AMC. We are blessed to be able to provide them with financial support as they travel the country in hopes of overcoming these challenges and realizing their full potential. We are grateful for the doctors that are willing to arm themselves with the knowledge of AMC and give these kids a chance. We are beyond grateful for your continued support of our foundation and our mission. Whether you joined our Annual Race to Walk, shopped with us through AmazonSmile, or thought of us with a generous donation, your support raised over $9300 for our Against All Odds Program this year and we look forward to assisting many more children through our program in 2020 and for many years to come. We hope you’re still considering joining us in support of every child with AMC and their RACE TO WALK. It’s never too late. Our 4th Annual Race to Walk will kick off tomorrow at 8:00 am. The fun will continue with our Fall Fest and last all day at Konow's Corn Maze & Pumpkin Farm.
