As our annual 5K winds up, we wanted to share this fun event in Tennessee this past weekend!

What if one day of golf could help change a child’s future? 🤍

On Thursday, October 1st, we’ll gather for our 15th Annual Golf for Ghana’s Orphans—and every golfer, sponsor, donor, and supporter will be part of something much bigger than a day on the course.

You’ll be helping us say YES.

YES to a child who needs the opportunity to go to school.

YES to nutritious food for a child who may not otherwise have enough to eat.

YES to clean water for families living without access to a safe source.

YES to medical care, baby formula, safe housing, specialized education for children who are deaf, vocational opportunities, and so much more.

For 20 years, A Better Life for Kids has been able to say YES because people like you have chosen to stand beside the children and families we serve in Ghana.

We are about one month from our annual ABLFK golf outing! As we celebrate 20 years… and Shelley’s recent visit to Ghana… we want to share some of the amazing programs you’ve helped support over the years. One of our favorites is the Eggs for Kids project.

As you probably know, our Eggs for Kids program provides children and families in great need with an egg each day. 🥚🤍 That daily source of protein and nutrition makes such a difference when meals may otherwise be mostly rice. We are so thankful for your support!!🇬🇭🤍

A more recent addition to the ABLFK family, but a very important part of our work!

“This very special girl has been an incredible help to A Better Life for Kids over the past two years. 🤍

She is a CODA—a child of a Deaf adult—growing up as a hearing child in a Deaf family and community. At a young age, she has had to carry responsibilities no child should have to carry, often helping her family navigate a world where deafness and other disabilities are still deeply stigmatized.

Her knowledge of the local sign language used within her community has been invaluable, helping us bridge the gap between formal sign language and the unique signs and dialect used by the families we serve.

But we want her to know that she is so much more than the role she plays for others. We are committed to building her up, encouraging her, supporting her education, and helping her navigate the challenges she faces while giving her opportunities to dream about her own future.

This is the kind of personal, meaningful work your support makes possible. Thank you for helping us remind children like her that they are seen, valued, loved, and worthy of every opportunity to thrive. 🤍🇬🇭”

Someone we all know well…

“Love him. Love him. Love him so much. ❤️
Could not be happier to spend time with my Emmanuel. I am so incredibly proud of the man he has become.

Twenty years ago, he was a small, very sick little boy who had been abandoned and was living in an orphanage. Today, he is truly one of the most remarkable people I have ever known.

What a powerful reminder of what love, care, encouragement, support, opportunity—and finding a family—can do in the life of a child. ❤️

Watching Emmanuel grow into the incredible man he is today has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. It has been such an honor to be the mom in his life all these years.

Love you beyond words, Emmanuel. So, so proud of you. ❤️🇬🇭”

Another update on a young man who we are incredibly inspired by and continue to support towards all of his goals.

From Shelley:

“This is what a world changer looks like. 🤍

From growing up in a rural tribal village and selling alcohol on the streets as a child… to being sponsored to attend school, excelling as a leader, graduating from university, and now becoming a successful businessman in the fishing industry.

His work ethic, leadership, determination, and relentless desire to learn and grow are beyond words. Every time we spend time talking with him, we walk away thinking the same thing: this man is truly remarkable. He is in a league of his own.

Books could be written about his life. His story could make the most incredible documentary. And the amazing thing is—his story is far from over.

We could not be more proud of him. It has been one of the greatest honors of our lives to know, love, encourage, and walk alongside him for the past 20 years. We cannot wait to see where his extraordinary story goes next. 🤍🇬🇭”

As Shelley starts to make her way back home, we wanted to share some more stories from her time in Ghana. Here’s one of my favorites!

From Shelley:

“So incredibly grateful for an afternoon with this amazing man. 🤍

His story is one of faith, perseverance, integrity, and incredible strength. He has faced challenges that could have easily defined his future—but instead, he has continued to overcome them, one step at a time.

He grew up in an orphanage and didn’t have the opportunity to begin school until he was 12 years old. From there, he went on to high school, then nursing training college—and this September, he will begin a university nursing program!

But as incredible as all of those accomplishments are, there is something even more beautiful: he has the family he always dreamed of having. An amazing wife, a precious new baby boy, and a home filled with love. ❤️

We are SO incredibly proud of him, and so thankful to have had the privilege of walking alongside him and cheering him on through the years. What an incredible story of overcoming, hope, and what is possible when someone is given love, encouragement, support, and opportunity. 🤍”

“We also gave out the hampers!!! Edith shopped for all of the items- cooking oil, rice, tomato paste, canned fish, beans, biscuits, and soda pop and beautifully wrapped each one! They were so grateful to receive these presents- for many of our new sponsored girls it was the first gift they’ve ever received in their life. Thank you so much for making this meaningful work possible!🤍”
