Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation dba Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation (UCU Foundation) was founded in 1997 to support and fund the growth and operations of Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv, Ukraine.

What a wonderful season of Ukrainian festivals! 💙💛

Over the past few months, the UCU Foundation team had the joy of gathering with Ukrainian communities across the country. From familiar faces to new friends, each festival gave us an opportunity to connect, share the story of Ukrainian Catholic University, and celebrate the strength and spirit of our community.

We are especially grateful to the many donors, supporters, alumni, and friends who stopped by to say hello, learn more about UCU, and share their own stories with us.

Thank you for welcoming us into your communities and helping us continue to build connections that reach from the U.S. to Ukraine.

Thank you for helping make this year’s Perelaz Folk-Gala such a memorable success!

We shared a wonderful afternoon and evening filled with music, celebration, and connection. As always, Perelaz brought together new friends and longtime UCU supporters, reminding us of the strength of our community and our shared commitment to its mission. We were delighted to welcome more than 150 guests and have raised over $106,000, with additional pledges still coming in!

We are extremely grateful to our keynote speaker, Roman Lozynskyi, for his unique insight and thought-provoking comments. Our musical guest, Maria Burmaka, brought the audience together with her energetic and soulful performance. We were also grateful to welcome a delegation of Ukrainian business owners and generous UCU donors who traveled from Lviv, Ukraine, to join us. Their enthusiasm was infectious! The evening as a whole was a testament to the rich tapestry of Ukrainian culture and the resilience of the Ukrainian people. It was a privilege to celebrate and experience that spirit together.

🕊️ On Pokrova, We Remember

Today, on Pokrova, the Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God, Ukrainians honor the Mother of God as protector and remember those who have sacrificed their lives defending Ukraine.

This year, we remember two members of the UCU community: UCU alumni Andriy Korniychuk and Volodymyr Maryshchuk, who gave their lives in defense of Ukraine.

Andriy was a teacher, volunteer, husband, father, and defender of Ukraine. A graduate of the Lviv Theological Academy, he dedicated his life to teaching, mentoring young people, serving his community, and living his faith through service.

Volodymyr, a graduate of UCU’s Faculty of Humanities, is remembered for his courage, dedication to Ukraine, and deep connection to the UCU community.

In their memory, UCU Foundation is establishing two endowed scholarships, creating a lasting legacy that will support generations of UCU students.

Our goal is to fully endow each scholarship with $100,000.

We cannot repay their sacrifice. But we can honor their lives by helping build the future they gave everything to protect.

This year, we are thrilled to welcome 477 new undergraduate students from across Ukraine to the Ukrainian Catholic University community! 🎉

Before classes began, UCU held its traditional orientation session to help first-year students become familiar with the University, gain the tools they need to successfully adapt to university life, and begin to feel part of the UCU family.

Thanks to the generous support of UCU Foundation donors, nearly $1 million in scholarships have been provided by U.S. supporters for the 2026–27 academic year, helping ensure that talented students can pursue their education at UCU.

Responding to Ukraine’s growing need for rehabilitation professionals, UCU is proud to launch a new Bachelor’s Program in Physical Therapy.

This expands our health science offerings, allowing students to complete their education from a bachelor's through a master's degree. A special thank you to UCU Foundation supporter Dr. Lyda Tymiak Lindell, our Strategic Launch Partner, for her generous gift making this possible.

There is no better way to understand the transformative impact of your support than to experience it in person at Ukrainian Catholic University.

A select group of UCU Foundation benefactors recently traveled to Lviv for the inaugural Insider’s View of UCU, an extraordinary opportunity to step inside the mission of Ukrainian Catholic University and see its impact firsthand as the new academic year began.

From meeting students, faculty, university leaders, and alumni to exploring UCU’s campuses and innovative programs, participants gained a deeper understanding of how UCU educates leaders, advances innovation, and helps shape Ukraine’s future.

The trip offered an inspiring look at the many ways UCU serves its students and country, including:

🎓 Academic excellence: Exploring the Faculty of Applied Sciences, UCU’s leading IT education, and the Faculty of Law’s contributions to legal education in Ukraine; meeting with students who received scholarships made possible through donor support.

💡 Innovation and entrepreneurship: Meeting the student entrepreneurs and staff behind Ideas Lab, recognized as Ukraine’s leading university-based entrepreneurship program and accelerator.

🤝 Support for veterans and their families: Learning about UCU’s commitment to veterans and the university’s role in strengthening human capital for Ukraine’s recovery.

❤️Health, healing, and service: Visiting the Faculty of Health Sciences, UCU Medical Clinic, and our partner organizations Unbroken and Superhumans Center, where advanced care, rehabilitation, and psychological support help restore lives and where our students gain practical experience and are recruited for professional roles.

⛪ Faith and spiritual life: Experiencing the university’s spiritual community, including Divine Liturgy with Archbishop Borys Gudziak and visits to UCU’s theological programs and Holy Spirit Seminary.

Throughout the week, conversations with university leadership, including Rector Taras Dobko, offered a meaningful perspective on UCU today and its vision for the future.

This was more than a trip. It was an opportunity to see hope in action, connect with the people behind the mission, and witness how the generosity of UCU supporters makes a difference.

As Ukraine navigates ongoing challenges, UCU remains committed to those who have served. We are proud to highlight the new Veterans Career Boost Program—an initiative designed to empower returning defenders with the skills and resources needed to thrive in civilian careers.

💭 “We called this course a ‘reboot’ so that veterans can reflect on their experiences and the skills they gained during the war, try to ‘translate’ them into civilian language, and understand where they can go next,” says Roksolyana Voronovska, head of the UCU Institute for Professional Development.

The program was launched by UCU’s Institute for Professional Development in partnership with Boosters and Genesis for Ukraine, with support from the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Veterans Fund, and Veteran Hub.
