After all the excitement of settling into a new home, Heidi is taking everything in stride and getting acquainted with her new neighbors. Meanwhile, the Dolce seems convinced that every horse exists specifically to be her best friend.
There's always something special about watching new bonds begin to form across a stall wall—ears forward, quiet conversations, and plenty of mutual inspection.
Here's to new chapters, new friendships, and a herd that keeps growing together. 🐴❤️🐴

Did you know ? Dusty indoor arenas can seriously harm both horses and people. During exercise, horses inhale dust, bacteria, and fungi deep into their lungs, increasing the risk of airway inflammation, heaves, and long-term respiratory damage. Regular watering, manure removal, good ventilation, and low-dust footing are key to maintaining healthy air quality.

We are expecting more rain, and it looks like our power outage may last for several more days.
Unfortunately, our water reserves ran dry when the well pumps lost power. So first thing this morning, we did the next best thing and rushed out to buy a larger, more powerful generator. We got incredibly lucky — despite a crowd of people doing the exact same thing, we managed to snag the very last generator available in the store. They were all gone within 15 minutes of the doors opening at 8 a.m.!
The outage has affected a huge area. Some local businesses, including Walmart, have remained without power since yesterday. I can only imagine the losses if backup systems aren't keeping food and produce from spoiling.
On a brighter note, Heidi officially joined the herd yesterday! The moment she realized she had access to the big field, she was absolutely thrilled. She ran, and ran, and ran some more. The rest of the herd attempted to keep up with her enthusiasm but quickly decided that was far too much cardio for one day.
Once I figured she had finally gotten all her "zoomies" out, I brought her in for a nice cool shower, which she appreciated immensely. After that, she happily settled in with a hay net under the fans to relax and recover.
If the weather cooperates, we'll give it another try today. ❤️

Today was one of those absolutely wild Midwest weather days.
The forecast called for 90° heat, humidity thick enough to swim through, tornado warnings, and sirens going off across the area. The original plan was simple: leave everyone inside under the fans and wait it out.
But after watching the weather app all morning, things looked calm enough, so I figured a few hours of turnout and some fresh air would do everyone good. Out went ALL the horses to enjoy the breeze (and Heidi got her very first romp in the big field... but that's a story for another post 😁).
A couple of hours later, Mother Nature reminded me who's actually in charge.
The power went out. The weather app clearly lied. A fast-moving storm rolled through, dumping nearly 3 inches of rain in about 45 minutes. Thankfully we escaped the worst of it, but some nearby areas were hit much harder. More storms are still on the way, and as I write this, half the town is still without power and it doesn't look like anything will be restored today. The barn is always extra exciting in pitch dark.

So, Not to be outdone, I somehow managed to kill my truck battery while charging my phone. Then my awesome neighbor called to let me know that while we were busy hooking up the generator, one of our dogs had apparently decided to pay them a social visit.
Just another day in paradise. 😂
On a completely different note, I was talking to Noni's breeder yesterday. Hard to believe I've had him for almost 20 years now, ever since he was a yearling. His breeder still remembers him fondly as the horse who loved jumping into water troughs and getting sprayed with water.
Noni is my partner in every sense of the word. He's the horse that knows me better than any other, both in and out of the saddle. The only one I can still comfortably ride ba****ck. The only one who responds to the slightest cue. No matter how much time passes, we pick up exactly where we left off.
He's done it all and loved every minute of it—shows, trails, expos, parades, jumping—and never hesitated to step into the arena and hold his own against some very impressive Warmbloods. And even now, he still keeps me humble whenever a dirt bike appears that he decides is absolutely not worth befriending. 😂

And here's a small-world discovery I stumbled upon just recently. While digging through the PZHK Polish breeder database. I found one of Noni's paternal siblings on the other side of the globe. Both horses are by the Friesian stallion Novi, and his sibling lives in Poland under the name "Novis Nitro."
Somehow its a small world after all

Just another calm, organized, predictable week at the farm…” said absolutely nobody. 🤪🐴

This week included:
• horses coming and going
• trailer loading chaos
• last-minute plans changing by the hour
• emotional support coffee (and lemon water)
• at least five “this was NOT on the schedule” moments
• and somehow… everyone survived 😂

The horse world is equal parts beautiful, exhausting, expensive, rewarding, and mildly unhinged.
But watching these three load like pros, reminded me that even during the chaos, there’s something special about this life. ❤️

Farm life is equal parts hay, hope, and love 🚜🐎

This week at Bliss Farm
we welcomed a horse and 10 ducklings 🖤🐴🦆

Sometimes our work can be inspiring …
…and sometimes it looks like cheeping ducklings, extra feed bills, exhaustion, and wondering how many animals can possibly fit on one farm 😂

But giving animals a safe place to land will always be worth it 🥰

Anyone else having one of those days… or is it just my personal circus today?🎪🎠🎠🎠

Because if I hear one more person say “breeding is easy”… I have beautiful girls waiting and no time to spare. So between perfect timing in every corner - Nothing. I repeat. NOTHING about this is easy or cheap.
So there I am—rushing out with my backup tank like I’m in some kind of high-stakes IVF action movie—trying to salvage the last precious bit of semen from what used to be a perfectly reasonable “~100 straw supply”… which now apparently decided to just… vanish. P**f. Gone. No notes.
And of course my “spare” tank decides it’s also done with my nonsense and tips over like a toddler with a grudge, spilling liquid nitrogen all over my back seat like it’s performance art.

Now I’m just driving in a mobile disaster zone asking myself the real question: Do I actually make this 1.5 hour dash before they close at 4:30… or do I just accept my fate as the universe unfolds
Lord help me.
Have I earned whatever today is?
