Play has always been a creative practice.

That's why we're excited to welcome back Press Start for the third chapter of our partnership with Second City Gaming—this time celebrating the release of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls with a special release party.

At Kinowerks, we believe cinema and gaming share the same creative DNA. Both bring people together through storytelling, collaboration, worldbuilding, and imagination. They're spaces where ideas are explored, communities are formed, and creativity comes to life through shared experiences.

Breaking the frame starts with expanding who gets to tell the story.

We're grateful to have welcomed back Which Witch Productions and 3133 Films for another inspiring Women in Film Night—an evening dedicated to filmmakers whose work challenges perspectives, celebrates identity, and broadens the conversation around what cinema can be.

From a powerful screening program and thoughtful panel discussion to local creative vendors and conversations that carried throughout the evening, every part of the night reflected what happens when artists are given space to share, connect, and be seen.

At Kinowerks, we believe creative communities move forward by making room for diverse voices, new ideas, and meaningful dialogue. Thank you to the organizers, filmmakers, vendors, and everyone who joined us in building that kind of space together once again.

Here's to another unforgettable collaboration—and to the stories still waiting to be told.

Films don't build communities—people do 🤝

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, Filmscape, and Filmmaker Friday Chicago for a conversation on turning film events into real opportunities for connection. It was inspiring to see emerging filmmakers, seasoned crew members, and creative professionals sharing ideas, experiences, and a genuine excitement for the future of our industry.

For us, that's what events like these are all about: creating spaces where conversations become collaborations and where creative careers can grow through community.

And we're just warming up.

Filmscape Schedule Launch Party Recap 🎬

Last Friday, Kinowerks was buzzing as we gathered to celebrate the schedule launch of Filmscape Chicago, taking place later this month. It was an inspiring evening filled with conversation, connection, and a shared passion for storytelling.

A special thank you to Arielle, Monica, and Jon for joining our panel, Behind the Scenes: Mental Health in the Film Industry, and for sharing their experiences, insights, and advice on navigating wellness in our industry. And a huge thanks to Grover Derupe for guiding such a thoughtful and engaging discussion.

Events like this are at the heart of what we hope to build at Kinowerks—a space where filmmakers can learn from one another, strengthen their creative communities, and support each other both on and off set.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, contributed to the discussion, and helped make the evening what it was.

Last Friday, Kinowerks x Second City Gaming teamed up with HUPR to create a space where people could move freely between consoles, conversations, music, and art—all while building something bigger together.

Shoutout to our amazing community partners who showed up and helped make the night special: HUPR, Spiral and Loops and Ava’s Italian Ice. Your support, creativity, and presence brought the energy to life.

We were also honored to host the world premiere of “I See the Sun” by Chicago artist Lonnie Edwards and Jess Reyes, inspired by Princess Mononoke. It was truly a moment to remember!

A huge thank you to everyone who came for filling the space with your voices, laughter, and love. Seeing people connect through play, culture, and creativity is exactly why we do this.

There will be so much more to come! More community, more collaboration, more play ahead.

Press Start returns — May 15, 7PM–10PM 👾🕹️

Kinowerks and Second City Gaming are teaming up with HUPR for a night built around play, movement, community, and art—where gaming meets culture in all its forms.

Expect consoles throughout the space, an open bar, and a room full of people who see play as more than entertainment—it’s a way to connect, create, and build something bigger.

We’ll also host a special world premiere from Chicago artist Lonnie Edwards, debuting his newest music video *“I See the Sun,”* inspired by Princess Mononoke.

Plus, we've got treats from Ava’s Italian Ice to keep the night cool.

Stories bring people together.

This past Friday, Kinowerks was proud to host our partners at Creator Collective for another inspiring Film Club—an evening full of bold ideas, fresh perspectives, and real creative energy.

Six fantastic short films from diverse voices lit up the screen, followed by the kind of conversations that matter most: filmmakers, artists, and audiences connecting through story, process, and shared curiosity.

That exchange is what Kinowerks is built for—creating space for dialogue, discovery, and the relationships that move creative culture forward out in Chicago.

On April 11th, The Silver Beat brings together dancers, the Parkinson’s community, Latine culture, Chicago creatives, and those showing up for something bigger than themselves.

This is more than a dance night.
