We usually associate 20-20 with 20/20 vision and seeing clearly. This year 2020 has been defined by tragedy, trauma, trials and tribulations for all of us. Nonetheless, we have gained greater clarity on just who and where we are as a society. We can see how far have we come and how much further we have to go personally as well as in our families, communities, and our country.
Despite all the negative things that have happened this year, it’s important for our mental and physical health to focus on the positives and what we’ve learned about the world, but most importantly…about ourselves. So I’m asking you to post about one positive thing you’ve discovered or confirmed about yourself this year. A new hobby. A new way of thinking. A new approach. A new passion. Whatever it is…share it here…either through a short written message, video, picture, or any other means to express your truth.
SeeMe4Me (Seememvmt) is about defining and declaring our true selves. But before others can see you accurately, you must see your own truth. So share your 2020 COVID Clarity that allows us to see you and see yourself more clearly. And please repost this to you page so others can share also.

I’ve been thinking about all the things that need to improve and the ways they need to improve in order to move closer to the equitable and just institutions, systems and society we have been demanding (since before George Floyd’s death) and deserve. I’ve also been thinking about how I’m going to contribute to the change we seek.

My primary strategy is narrative change. I firmly believe that changing unjust systems and policies is not enough if the people who run and perpetuate those systems don’t change the way the view black people. It’s their perceptions that shape their decisions and their actions. It’s why I launched www.seeme4me.org (Seememvmt on Facebook) to create a space for us to own and share our unique narrative…accurately. Our story is ours to tell…not the media’s, not the opposition’s, not the police reports’ and not for our family and friends to eulogize us after we’re gone. It’s our story to tell now.

If enough of us share our realities and get others to share theirs as well, we can contribute to an overall movement to change how we view ourselves, how we view each other…and therefore how we treat each other.

So post who you are. What makes you uniquely you? How do you want to be seen? What do you want to be known for? Use your words. Use your voice. Your artistry. Your pictures. Your videos. However you want to show who you are…share it! And use the hashtags and

See Me 4 Me

SeeMe4Me is a narrative change campaign that challenges us to view each other differently and redefine our perceptions of one another. This social awareness effort allows people to reject the perceptions formed of them, and to demand that they be seen for who they really are by proclaiming: “Your perception is not my reality.”

For people to thrive – especially people of color – we must elevate their accurate and holistic narrative, which uplifts their humanity, amplifies their voices and expresses their truth about themselves, this society and their place in it.

Too often we are judged by and make judgments of others based on our own color-coded biases. What we think about someone – especially someone who looks different from us – is formed by the immediate impressions we form when we see them – how they look, how they dress, their skin color, how they talk. We base our opinions and subsequent actions, on these superficial characteristics that do not accurately convey who a person really is.

The impressions we form drive how we treat each other. They influence policies we make that support or hinder our access to opportunities for advancement; and the decisions that maintain or restrict our civil rights. These impressions inform whether we help or hurt each other, or simply look the other way. These often quick impressions can even influence whether or not we take someone’s life out of fear, bias or malice towards who we perceive them to be.
