They Deserve More is moving forward assertively with state legislators to advocate strongly for a $4 per hour wage increase for the dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Once again, it is so important that legislators hear from you -- their constituents -- about why this increase is so critically needed to support people with disabilities, their families and the staff who provide day services and 24/7/365 residential care. The staffing crisis impacting the country is even more acute in community-based services – and legislators must make people with disabilities a priority NOW in Illinois.

HB3569 and SB2026 provide an opportunity for you to share a specific ask with your legislators. The bills authorize the state to add $78.5M to what is already in the Governor’s announced budget to support people with IDD. Legislators need to hear that these resources are critical and should be prioritized.
