Today, right wing neophytes prattle that Critical Race Theory poisons young minds & frightens white children sensitive about the white race.
My experience during the Black Student Strike at the University of Wisconsin, Madison Wisconsin tells a different story.
Out of tens of thousands of students attending Madison, only 500 were African American.
Black students issued 13 demands to the University including the institution of an Ethnic Studies Program, enrollment of more Black students and an African American center.
When the administration rebuffed the legitimate demands of the Black students, a student strike was called in February 1969. We white students, organized by the Students for a Democratic Society joined in the call to shut down the university.
Initially, we blocked doors to classrooms on the Liberal Arts campus. When the strike shut down classes, the Governor called in the National Guard, with fixed bayonets on their rifles to force open our picket lines.
Black students called for a march on the capitol. That night, 10,000 students, out of a total student body of 30 to 40,000, joined a torch light march.
Those 10,000 students were not afraid of Critical Race Theory. We all supported the demands of the Black students. CRT is a creature of right-wing conservatives to divide Black and white people from seeing that we have more in common to fight for than racial differences that divide us.
