Applications for the Fund’s next round of funding open on August 11. $3.85 million is available.

Funding is split into two focus areas: “Increasing Hard Infrastructure & Capacity Building” and “Policy Change & Power-Building (Including Workers’ Rights).”

The Fund will offer an informational webinar about the grant round on August 20, at 1 p.m. CDT.

The Chicago Region Food System Fund awarded $3,050,000 to 39 organizations in the “Prepare for Future Food System Emergencies” grant round. The COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how unprepared the traditional food system is to meet demand during a sudden systemic breakdown. The third round of funding in this cycle applies what the nonprofit organizations, growers, workers, and funders learned—both positive and negative—from pandemic response to planning for future systemic shocks.

The Chicago Region Food System Fund announces $3.8 million awarded in grants to 39 organizations, supporting projects that enhance the local and regional food system. This is part of the Fund's ongoing commitment to building a resilient food system for the Chicago region.
