October is LGBTQ History Month, and at Life Is Work, we intentionally say TLGBQ History Month.

The “T” matters.

It matters because trans people have always been part of the movement, the organizing, the art, the culture, the resistance, and the joy that make our collective history possible.

We honor the elders who created space when there was little to be found. We honor the organizers who demanded better. We honor the people we lost. We honor the people still doing the work. And we honor every person who is simply trying to live, love, create, and exist as their fullest self.

For us, history isn’t just about looking backward.

It’s about understanding what we inherited, and deciding what we’re going to leave behind.

This month, we remember.
We celebrate.
We educate.
We organize.
And we keep making history.

What an amazing time showing up for community. 💜💜

As we mark 45 years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, we pause to honor the lives we’ve lost, celebrate the resilience of those who continue to fight, and uplift the organizations doing the work to move us toward a healthier, more equitable future.

We’re proud to support organizations like AIDS Foundation Chicago, whose mission is about more than getting to zero, it’s about restoring dignity, expanding access, and making sure all of us have the opportunity to thrive.

Because this work has always been about people. And community is how we keep moving forward. ✊🏾❤️

Life Is Work had the pleasure of presenting TWICE at this year’s conference, hosted by NMAC, bringing intentional conversations around the connections between viral suppression and housing stability and how trans leadership is shaping the future of HIV prevention.

From our staff and leadership to our board members, the LIW team showed up ready to share knowledge, challenge conversations, and create space for meaningful dialogue.

Our phenomenal staff gave an impactful presentation at titled “Housing as a Prevention: Ending the HIV Epidemic By Addressing Homelessness and Housing Disparities: An Entrance to Holistic Care.” At LIW, we afford our clients dignity by looking at them holistically! They aren’t just a number, and we know that in order for folks to prioritize their health, they must first have a place to lay their head! “How can we expect people to take their meds if they don’t have a dignified bed” Is what our CEO says! We’ll be sharing bits and pieces from this session, so stay tuned to see how LIW is addressing the HIV epidemic through holistic care!
