MAFS owes its existence to Universal Industries, a Chicago based business, which applied for Home Care Services, which is now known as Universal Metro Asian Services (UMAS) and MAFS was formed to deliver all other social service programs. Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS)/UMAS have come a long way. It was incorporated as a not-for-profit Tax-Exempt 501 © (3) multi-cultural organization in

1993 with a mission to provide comprehensive and integrated services to immigrant population of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lankan and East European communities facing linguistic and cultural barriers. MAFS/UMAS is a multi-cultural and multi ethnic organization and has, at its core, a commitment to educate, counsel and assist and empower immigrants to become productive member of American Society.

💜 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 💜

Our elders deserve dignity, respect, and care- always.

This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we are sharing an awareness video in Hindi to reach and support our South Asian community. Elder abuse can take many forms- emotional, physical, financial, or neglect and often goes unnoticed or unspoken due to cultural barriers, stigma, or lack of awareness.

Through this video, we aim to:
✅ Raise awareness in our community
✅ Encourage open conversations within families
✅ Share resources and support for seniors and caregivers

If you or someone you know may be experiencing abuse, please know that help is available and you are not alone.

Are you a South Asian senior who is feeling overwhelmed, losing interest in daily activities, or simply in need of someone to talk to?

If so, consider joining the MAFS PEARLS counseling program. Our compassionate and trained staff are here to support you in a language you understand, within a confidential and comforting environment.

You will find yourself feeling better and gaining the skills needed to take charge of your life once again.

MAFS in partnership with SAAPRI is organizing a World Cafe style session for staying ahead and staying healthy!

The goal of this event is to create a space for South Asian community members to receive education and engage in open dialogue about screening and preventive health for prominent conditions.

If you are a desi in your 30s, 40s or older, we want to hear from you!

Join us on 3rd April (Friday) at Naperville, from 3PM-5PM, for an interactive educational session. The hope is that following the event, we as South Asians feel empowered to take action steps to better support our own health outcomes.

Many changes and transitions are taking place in Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, MMAI, and other benefits that can be overwhelming for our seniors to understand.

Join us on 22nd March for an interactive in-person workshop to update yourself on these changes. MAFS Public Benefits Specialists
will share reliable information and answer all related questions. The workshop will be done in Hindi and Gujarati.
