Why We Care NFP is proud to share some exciting news!

We are honored to announce that Why We Care NFP has been awarded funding through the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) R3 Grant, receiving a grant totaling $644,500. Through our Southland Economic Empowerment Initiative, this funding will support workforce development and economic empowerment opportunities for residents in Dolton, Robbins, Riverdale, Harvey, and surrounding south suburban communities.

We are also thrilled to share that Why We Care NFP has received a $7,000 Seed Fund Grant from Crossroads Fund to help strengthen our community-centered work.

At Why We Care NFP, our mission is to turn care into action and transform hopelessness into hope. These investments are more than grant awards; they are opportunities to expand resources, create pathways to economic stability, and continue serving communities across Chicago’s Far South Side and the South Suburbs.

These grants represent the importance of investing in Black-led organizations that are deeply rooted in the communities they serve. They will help us grow, strengthen our operations, and increase our impact for years to come.

The City of Chicago is gathering input to help inform Chicago’s Reparations Study. We encourage you to complete the survey and share your lived experiences, priorities, and perspectives. Once you complete the full survey, you will be entered into a sweepstakes with the chance to win a $100 gift card. Surveys will be accepted through May 31, 2026.

Every child deserves to feel safe, not just sometimes, but always. At Why We Care NFP, we know prevention does not start in a crisis. It starts in everyday moments through honest conversations, trust, and giving children the language to understand their bodies and boundaries.

This month, we are sharing tools, resources, and real ways families can create safer, more supportive environments for their children. Because protecting children is not just a responsibility, it is a community effort.

As we begin Women’s History Month, we want to take a moment to remind everyone about the Why We Care NFP Women Evolve Summit taking place on Saturday, March 14th, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, located at 1250 W 119th St, Chicago, IL 60643.

This empowering afternoon will feature engaging workshops focused on wellness and mental health, small business development, entrepreneurship, personal finance, and homeownership. We will also have Black women-owned businesses selling their products, allowing attendees to shop, support, and invest directly in local entrepreneurs.

Attendees will be able to connect with community leaders, explore valuable resources, and build meaningful relationships in a supportive and inspiring environment.
