What an incredible and inspiring experience at the Women Evolve Summit on March 14th!

This year’s theme, Reflect, Realign, Renew, truly came to life as we connected, learned, and grew together. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing vendors, community partners, and speakers for pouring into this space and helping create an environment where women can thrive.

As we begin Women’s History Month, we want to take a moment to remind everyone about the Why We Care NFP Women Evolve Summit taking place on Saturday, March 14th, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, located at 1250 W 119th St, Chicago, IL 60643.

This empowering afternoon will feature engaging workshops focused on wellness and mental health, small business development, entrepreneurship, personal finance, and homeownership. We will also have Black women-owned businesses selling their products, allowing attendees to shop, support, and invest directly in local entrepreneurs.

Attendees will be able to connect with community leaders, explore valuable resources, and build meaningful relationships in a supportive and inspiring environment.

🚨 SNAP (Link) Update – Action Needed! 🚨

The federal government has passed new SNAP rules. To keep your food benefits, act by February 1:
1️⃣ Update your info – Report income or household changes to the Illinois DHS.
2️⃣ Check work requirements – 80 hrs/month in a job, volunteer, or training program; exemptions available.
3️⃣ Volunteer opportunities – Need hours? WWC and CAVF can help! Use the link in our bio to fill out the form and a staff member will contact you.

This is a nine-month program, Greencorps Chicago trainees earn a starting wage of $18.50. Greencorps Chicago trainees receive practical experience, professional development, and classroom & field training in a variety of environmentally-related jobs with skills that are easily transferable to other industries. Trainees are offered several professional certifications including Defensive Driving, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER, OSHA 10-Hour Safety, Chicago Wilderness Prescription Burn Class, and the Illinois Pesticide license. Throughout the program, trainees are supported with wrap-around social services, a stable income, and assistance finding full time employment upon completion of the program.

On Monday, Why We Care NFP spent the day testing the air, soil, and water of Altgeld Gardens. Members of our Environmental Justice Advisory Board who are also parents of Aldridge Elementary students joined us for a meaningful day of discussion, community engagement, and environmental learning. Together, we centered resident voices, shared concerns, and took an important step toward understanding environmental conditions that directly impact families in the Gardens.
