We have $800 to invest in our neighborhood’s young people and would like to fund an event, series, or program inspired by Dolly Parton’s words: “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”

💵 Funds can cover teen stipends, supplies, food, or other programming costs.

Drop your idea in the comments and include if you can take lead or if you are just sharing for someone else to run with. The pitch doesn’t have to be polished at this point and we encourage participation in the replies.

We want this $800 to matter to real people. We want youth to find themselves on purpose. Let’s see what we can come up with. 💕💕💕

Update - same kids are at Warren now for the big soccer event and planning on coming out tmrw to pick up again! Please join them 🙌🏽

In today’s edition of, “kids will be kids” we have… cleaning up the neighborhood on their walk to the grocery store! This crew got to work picking up trash and now the shared space on those four blocks looks like something they can be proud of. Way to go, and let’s show them some love!

Send us the kids you’re proud of and the difference they are making - we’d want to celebrate them!

We have families at neighborhood schools asking for support with school supplies. See comments for current requests and reply if and how you are able to help. Walking in to school with the requested supplies allows kids to feel confident on their first day and fosters a sense of security during that anticipation for the start of school!

(Example replies: I can purchase, I can deliver, I can purchase and deliver, I can provide a gift card, I can chip in, etc.)

Let’s clear these lists!

These kids, age 9 & 11, saw a hornets nest on the playground yesterday, went to the park field house to report it, but it was locked. Memorized the phone number posted on the door and repeated it all the way home so they could call it in to the Park District before someone got stung. Today, they are clearing drains in the storm - 4 cleared so far and celebrations for every whirlpool. They may be growing up, but childhood is still magical and the kids are alright 🥰

Send us your stories of neighborhood kids showing up! We would love to share them 💗

We are out of funds in our bill pay account, but continue to get requests - most recently from a single mom needing to downsize her apartment but could not set up new utilities until she paid her previous address’s bill. Your donation matters. Please consider giving today!

💗 All donations are tax deductible and we have no overhead so 100% of the funds you give - save a small credit card transaction fee - go directly to neighbors in need. 💗

Update: People are good. We are now at $1015/$1000 💗💗💗 (any additional funds raised over our goal will also go directly towards this mother in its entirety as we know she will need it.)

We have a request to help a Venezuelan mother reunite with her children. So far, six people have come together to raise $355 and we have a donor willing to match donations for the next $350. If we meet the match, we’ll reach our $1,000 goal to help with the travel cost involved in reunification.

Update: current total $355 💗

This neighbor feels very desperate for support at this time.

She left her home country to work and provide her family as they suffered extreme hunger and prosecution from the government. She tried her hand unsuccessfully in several Latin American countries before making her way to the US. It has been a remarkable sacrifice that afforded her children food and modest stability. Recently, she had to leave her job due to an abusive boss’s sexual advances and threats. She previously had a work permit but it expired and Trump’s policies are not allowing her to renew. She understands her rights as a worker, but is tired and feeling hopeless and untrusting that her rights will actually be protected in our country.

Her daughters are in Venezuela - as is her son who calls his grandma “mom” because he was so young when she had to leave her family and her country for their survival. After the recent earthquake and proximity to women who lost their children in the rubble, being separated from her kids has become unbearable. Every day, she worries about their safety and dreams of the moment she can hold them again. She said her only wish right now is to have the means to return to them and share a meal together. After that, they will find a way forward together.

She’s always worked hard and with much humility, she is asking for help. We are collecting on her behalf over Zelle as 501c3 limitations for giving direct cash assistance mean we cannot raise on our typical fundraising platform. We do believe in direct cash aid being an important part of our work especially as she will need to use the funds in other countries and may not be able to produce receipts. Air travel will be complicated from the US as her IDs are expired and there are no US consulates. Air travel into Venezuela is also complicated as the US government has leaked names of people who filed for asylum and some are detained for treason at the airport. She will have to make some of the journey on train, bus, and foot - as any mother in her position would.

Every donation brings her one step closer and we will post progress of our collection here.

This young person attended a few of our youth group events a few years ago as a teen. A beacon of light and positivity, this current reality is unthinkable. If you are able to help, please do. The family does not have financial reserves for an emergency of this magnitude.

On the morning of Saturday, April 25, the car she was riding in struck a concrete barrier. First responders found her unconscious in the backseat. Of the three people in the car, Ana was the only one who sustained life-altering injuries. She spent three weeks in the Neuro ICU at the University of Chicago, where doctors performed surgery to remove a portion of her skull. Thankfully, she has awakened from her coma.

Ana has suffered serious complications, including pneumonia, fevers, and dangerous heart rate spikes. She is fed through a stomach tube and still has a tracheostomy, though she is breathing on her own. Miraculously, she is awake and has made some progress, but "some" is not enough. She is not yet strong enough to qualify for treatment at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where she could receive life-changing rehabilitation. Before they can admit her, she must be able to respond to cues such as "wiggle your toes," "give us a thumbs up," or simply respond to her name. Until then, this vibrant young woman must remain in a nursing home.

This is where we need your help. The physical therapy she needs is not covered by her insurance. Without these therapies, she may never gain the strength necessary to move into rehabilitation. These treatments are essential for her to relearn basic skills and continue the very promising life she was building. Always independent, Ana was putting herself through college, but there is no financial cushion for an emergency of this magnitude.

She needs her community's help to cover the cost of long-term treatment and care, including home modifications, travel expenses for medical appointments, medical supplies, additional therapies, and so much more.
