FREEPORT, IL Alert:
On Tuesday, July 7, City Crews will be replacing an outdated hydrant near the Carroll Water Tower. This will cause a water shutdown for residents in the following areas:
- Carroll Avenue from Fuller Street to South Street.
- Wayne Street from Chicago Avenue to Carroll Avenue.
- E. Roosevelt Street from Chicago Avenue to Carroll Avenue.
Due to the location of the hydrant replacement, once water is turned back on, the entire low zone of the City will be put under boil order restrictions.
Residents could experience discolored water, fluctuations in water pressure, and more. The infrastructure located near the hydrant replacement could allow for sediment to be stirred, so we advise all residents to do the following:
Flush your line by letting your faucet run.
Boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and making ice for at least 5 minutes before use. Bottled water may be used.
The City's responsibility is to prepare for the most challenging scenario to ensure we are ready to address any contingency. Based on our planning and condition of the system, we fully expect this project to proceed as scheduled with minimal impacts beyond the areas identified. While residents may notice some temporary water discoloration in other parts of the City due to changes in water flow, we do not anticipate widespread service interruptions or additional boil orders unless an unforeseen major water main break occurs during the repair.
This is a significant maintenance project for the City's water distribution system. However, unless an unforeseen major water main break occurs during the repair, no additional precautions or actions should be necessary for the vast majority of Freeport water customers.
