The future of Wyoming water is in limbo. 55,000,000 gallons used by Microsoft in Cheyenne alone in 2025 is a lot. That number is not decreasing as we build more data centers and power generation facilities that will only be used to feed data centers, not humans. BOPU is trying to sell enough water to make up for lost revenue from the refinery. I get it. They need to balance the budget. BUT, water is a regional resource. We need to think about our neighbors and our future. A massive data center has been proposed for Platte County, Evanston, and the Converse/Natrona County area. Anywhere along the I-80 corridor can expect data centers. This means more power generation and more water that we don’t have. Does agriculture use much more water? Yes. For now. The difference is that agriculture is a life sustaining industry. Mass surveillance is the opposite.

If you’d like to see the recent 3500 Microsoft annexation on the ballot so the people can decide, you can sign referendum petition at the following locations over the next week. You must be a registered city voter to sign the referendum. If you are not a registered voter and/or you live in the county, you can sign the citizens petition which is generally asking for better ordinances to protect us from the unknowns, more citizen involvement, no more NDA’s, and full transparency. If you see the giant yellow sign, I’m not far away. I will be on public property only. The business I’ve mentioned are for location reference only. I’ll also be hanging around downtown tomorrow afternoon so if you’re in the area, reach out to me and we can connect.

Monday 7/27 4:30-6:30 on Whitney and Highway 30 on the southwest corner with the gas station.

Tuesday 7/28 4:30-6:30 on the south side of Del Range near Natural Grocers.

Wednesday 7/29 4:30-6:30 on the north side of Del Range by King Soopers.

Thursday 7/30 4:30-6:30 at the west entrance to Sweetgrass Subdivision on College across from LCCC.

Keep an eye out for other people with the same referendum petition who are also sharing their locations on social media.

A referendum petition has been launched to let the people vote on the 3,500 annexation. Whether you are for or against the annexation, you can and should sign this petition. Let the people decide! We need 3,000 signatures due by August 4th. Please reach out if you’re interested in signing or checking out your own copy of the petition.

Microsoft released its 2026 sustainability report. In the reporting disclosure aka the fine print, they shared their data fact sheet which I’ve attached. Among other things, they disclose the withdrawal of 188,000,000 liters of water from the Cheyenne area. This is about 50,000,000 gallons. Table 12.
