The water is on at the dog park.

31/03/2026

I've been getting a lot of questions about when the water will be turned on at the park. I spoke with the city utilies department yesterday, and they advised me that the usual date for that is April 15. They will monitor the weather forecast and potentially do it sooner, but that depends on their work schedule. This date is consistent with years past. I have specifically requested that both parks be turned on simultaneously, as in the last few years the small dog park has had to wait for weeks after the big dog park was turned on.

Also be advised that we have a work order in with the city to repair the dog p**p receptacle in the small dog park. Please let me know if there are any other items requiring attention.....

As we work on the plan for this coming summer, we will be sending a survey to our members for input on what you would like to see in the way of improvements, rule changes, etc. The board will then meet and compile a list of priorities for our annual meeting with the town manager.

Enjoy the warm weather!

Happy Spring friends,

Now that all the snow is gone, and the ground is starting to dry out, we can really see all of the dog p**p that has been left behind this winter.

Please remember to pick up after your dog. There is a fine associated for not cleaning up after your dog. Some people leave extra bags tied to the fence so that if you don’t happen to have one in your pocket and your dog goes to the bathroom, you can grab one off the fence and feel free to use it. Also, if you happen to see another dog p**p, it would be very helpful if you could just pick it up and throw it away I know sometimes it is hard for us to see exactly where our dog went to the bathroom when we’re not standing right on top of them, but if we all help each other out, we can keep the Dog Park clean.

Thank you all for your help with this situation.

PARK STATUS UPDATE

The dog park's entrance has been cleared, but the parking lot remains hazardous with about 6 inches of snow. The bike path around the main park is competely clear, but the walkways into the dog parks are still covered with some snow.

Seeing as tomorrow is forecast to be 50 and sunny, and Sunday being 45 and rainy, my guess is that most of the snow will be gone by Monday and full access will be available. It will be sopping wet, of course, but I will be there with plenty of towels to de-muddy Dars. Hope to see you guys there soon!

I just spoke with the city manager's office about the pile of snow at the dog park. They are aware of it but won't be able to remove it and plow the parking lot until sometime next week, depending on the weather. With warmer temps arriving Tuesday, we should see progress soon. Thank you all for your patience, I know it's been a tough couple of weeks for our puppies!

I just drove to the Dog Park to see what shape it's in....and I've posted the pictures I just took. Parking lot is unplowed and mostly ice, and the surrounding grass areas and bike paths are completely frozen. No sign of anyone getting in, except for some tire tracks from someone who probably attempted during the storm.

The Town Manager's office told me that they are buried (literally) with side street plowing and don't think they will be able to get to the park until later this week, assuming we get some good melting from the wamer temperatures this week. I feel sorry for all the bored pets (and people)!

Good Morning Dog Park Enthusiasts:

I’d like to say how pleased I am to be appointed by our board as the new president of the Friends of the Dog Park! Although I know many of you personally from taking Dars to the small dog park, I’m looking forward to getting to know as many of you as possible on a personal basis. Our dog park is by the far the best park I’ve ever seen, in terms of size and layout, but I think the real value is in the relationships between our dogs and ourselves that have become so meaningful in our daily lives.

Amy, Cheryl and I had a very energizing conversation yesterday about the potential of the park, and we did some prioritizing of what we see as the immediate steps that should be taken. The first two items we’d like to address are 1) building communication infrastructure for obtaining input from members and for the board to communicate our progress efficiently and often, and 2) creating a positive relationship with the town council and new mayor, and especially with the town manager (who is the process of being hired).

Over the coming weeks, I will develop a questionnaire/poll that will ask each member of our dog park community for their feedback on issues they have concerns about, as well as ideas pertaining to improvements, rules, and potential fundraising. Also, we will be looking to expand our board of directors and would like to hear from anyone interested in a possible role.

Again, thank you so much for your support, and let’s make our dogs proud!

Take care,

Chris Taylor

A couple weeks ago we lost Judi from our board, we will miss her!!!

Yesterday Amy and I met to welcome Chris Taylor to our board. Chris brings us many ideas and enthusiasm for our dog park. He is a regular 2:00 with a large group that gets together in the small dog side.

After hearing all of the ideas and excitement that Chris had for our dog park I decided to nominate him for the President’s position and step back to the Vice President position. It was a unanimous vote!!!!

Please make sure to give him a warm welcome and support and we transition him.
