Standing in the water, participants take a moment to study their surroundings before making the next cast. Fly fishing is more than just catching fish with bugs, it's about reading the water, watching the currents, looking for signs of feeding trout, and staying connected to the natural world around them. Every cast begins with patience, observation, and preparation, as anglers focus on the details that can lead to that next unforgetable catch. It's in these quiet moments on the water where skill, mindfulness, and the anticipation of a tight line all come together.

After fly fishing on the legendary Beaverkill, nothing beats sitting down for a nice meal at Beaverkill Campground. Good food, great stories, and plenty of laughs around the table. The fish were just part of the day, the camaraderie and friendships are what make these trips special!

Tonight we had an incredible fly tying session! It’s always an honor to spend time around such a great group of veterans, anglers, and creative minds who all share the same passion for the art of fly fishing. The room was filled with laughter, stories, and the sound of bobbins spinning as everyone worked on their flies and shared techniques at the vise. From Wooly Buggers to talking fishing and fly tying, it was one of those evenings that reminds you how much this community means. Fly tying is more than just making flies, it’s therapy, friendship, creativity, and camaraderie. We are grateful for everyone who came out tonight and made it such a memorable session. Looking forward to the next one already.

Participant Brian landing a trout on the Riverbound trip was a perfect reminder of what Project Healing Waters is all about, healing, fellowship, and time on the water. Huge thanks to Roy, one of the guides with Project Healing Waters, for helping create memories that go far beyond catching fish. Sometimes the best therapy is a fly rod, a river, and good people around you.

Participant James found more than just a trout on the waters of Warm Springs, Virginia, he found peace, connection, and a reminder of why programs like Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing matter so much. With a fly rod in hand and good company beside him, James landed a beautiful trout surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Virginia mountains. Moments like these are what Project Healing Waters is all about helping veterans and participants heal through fly fishing, camaraderie, and time spent outdoors.

Our participants and volunteers are on the Rapidan River today and it did not disappoint.

There’s just something about being up there, clear water moving through the mountains, that resets everything.

They got into some beautiful brookies, those wild colors never get old. All came off a simple flashback pheasant tail, nothing fancy, just getting it down where it needed to be.
