Our Mission is helping the victims of abuse remember that they are Esteemed Treasures after their body's self esteem and confidence have been through any form of abuse. We do this by offering beauty services to these people and walking them through workshops that aid in rebuilding their fragile sel-festeem and confidence. We end our services with the "Dress for the job you want, not the Job you h
ave" Workshop. This helps these people see a life filled with new hopes and dreams and believing in themselves again.... Then we ask them to not just focus on themselves but to help someone in the position that they were in by paying it forward.This allows them see that they too are valuable and have the ability to contribute to something. We are a not for profit organization just starting up. Our mission is to remind victims of abuse that they are esteemed treasures. Each of the members on our board of directors have either grown up in abusive households and or grown up and felt its effects through domestic violence. So we personally understand and empathize with the long term effects that emotional, mental, physical and sexual abuse and how it creeps into every aspect of a person’s mind body and soul. It is our goal to help curb the effect from forming a stronghold in those affected by abuse and violence. We are currently doing this by offering services to abuse shelters for makeovers and gently donated clothing. Other services to these people will be workshops in boosting their self esteem and getting them ready to reenter the world with a higher confidence level. How ~Esteem~ came to be::
Esteem by definition means “to regard highly or favorably; regard with respect or admiration.”
We started out in september 2009 as a for profit hair salon (Salon la Tete) based out of the home of the Executive Director, Rachel Christian. It profited quite nicely but it remained a lifelong dream and goal to run it as a nonprofit organization. As a nonprofit we able to take our passion for helping those whose self-esteem have been battered, bruised and broken and help give them a light at the end of their tunnel. We want to remind these people that they are indeed esteemed by helping them to build their confidence and self-esteem back up. Our current services:
*Working with abuse shelters and offering beauty services for the residents. offering haircuts, hair color perms, make-up and other beauty services.
*We also coach in the aspects of steps to take to feel more confident with yourself. These areas of coaching include dressing sharp, good posture, walking, becoming a personal commercial, gratitude, complimenting others, and focusing on contributing. Through these lessons along with a new look ,confidence and self esteem are built. These would be done in a series of workshops. Our long term dreams for ~Esteemed~ include :
* A community Center for the children and teens of North Chesterfield- We are in need of facilities and volunteers to donate their time and skills for free activities that these children and teens might not otherwise get a chance to enjoy. tutors for all ages, ballet or other dance classes, sports opportunities etc.
* A food pantry- We are in need of a round the clock team as we plan to focus on those families whose work schedules do not coincide with a set pick up time. We are also in need of donated food items of all types and freezers to help store food items.
*An abuse shelter- We are in need of facilities, funding and volunteers, accredited and nonaccredited, for all aspects of the shelter
Our funding currently is coming from sales of donated items and donated crafted items. We are also looking to set up a bake sale to help fund our organization. We are in need of a storefront facility to run a charity store. We also need more crafts and bake goods donated for sale. Currently we do this through yard sales and “lemonade type stands”. However since our goals are bigger we are seeking bigger sales to help fund our organization. We are in the process now of filing for our 501c3 and articles of incorporation nonprofit status so that we can then apply for grant opportunities. Until then we are reaching out to the resources already with our community for help.
