Today my grief felt much like this marsh. Murky, muddy, vast and lonely. It was full of contrast as the birds sang to drown out the route 3 traffic and the sun shined on the polluted water. Even in the worst conditions, the egrite happily hunted for fish and the tree swallow fought to win back it's home from the sparrow. The wildlife didn't care that the odds were stacked against them. They would find a way to survive. I am trying too.

Today marks three years since my husband passed away.🕯️🕯️🕯️

Some days it feels like a lifetime ago, and other days it feels like it just happened.

Life looks completely different than I ever imagined,☹️and there are still so many moments I wish he was here for—especially raising our twins. We carry him with us in everything we do.💚

What has been even harder is not having clear answers about what happened or why.

Through my nonprofit, I’ve come to understand that becoming a widow the most stressful life events because of the many secondary losses that follow—yet there is still so little awareness and support for those navigating it.🧭😢

And the reality is, this is a rapidly growing population. Every⏰two minutes in the United States, a woman becomes a widow. ➡️Today, more than 547,000 children in the U.S. are being raised by widowed mothers—and that number continues to rise.⚠️

That’s why I’m committed to raising awareness and pushing for change.

On🗓️June 23, we recognize International Widows Day—a day I helped advocate to have formally recognized here in New Jersey. In partnership with through Light Up for Widows – One Yard at a Time, we are working to illuminate landmarks in💚green—representing growth—alongside accents of❤️red,🩷pink, and💙blue, representing love, hope, and healing.

I hope you’ll join us in this initiative in any way you can.🙏🏼

As I continue to move through my own grief, I’m also speaking up—for my husband, for my twins, and for other families who deserve to be seen and heard.

It’s a reminder that while we carry loss, we also carry each other. 💚❤️🩷💙

🌊The ocean has a way of holding what words cannot.

Some days, the grief feels as vast as the water in front of me—deep, endless, and impossible to fully understand. I lost my husband, and in that loss, a part of me went with him. But standing here, listening to the waves, I’m reminded that even the strongest tides rise and fall.

I don’t have the luxury of staying in the depths of my grief. I have children watching me—learning from me—needing me to show them what strength looks like, even when it hurts. So I breathe. I stand. I keep going.

The ocean doesn’t rush healing. It doesn’t force calm. It simply moves, again and again, teaching us that even after the hardest waves, there is still rhythm, still life, still hope.

I am grieving.🤍
I am healing.🤍
And I am raising strong!

VOLUME🆙🤍My purpose in spreading awareness for widows is to highlight their unique challenges and needs, promote understanding and support, and foster community connections. Since we are raising our children alone without their father and without our parenting partner, it’s essential to raise them to be strong, resilient, and good humans. We also need to manage our own grief journeys, which they often don’t fully understand. By raising awareness, we can empower widows, provide resources, and encourage empathy, ensuring that they feel seen and supported during difficult times.

🤍Traveling as a widow, without your partner IS HARD! Feelings of courage, fear, and everything else in between. continually strive to raise awareness through our One Yard Widow’s Cup, recognizing the unique challenges we face.✈️🥤💚

An example of how we are constantly reminded of our situation is when the waiter inquires if we’re waiting for someone and then takes away the extra place setting. This simple act reinforces the reality of our loss and serves as a heartfelt reminder of the journey we continue to navigate.🍽️❌😢
