Chester’s Plastics Working Group is proud to be part of the New Hampshire Network for Environment, Energy and Climate (NECC). The purpose of the NECC is to facilitate communication among groups concerned about New Hampshire’s environment, energy future, and climate. As Chester’s Plastics Working Group, we focus on addressing the intersectionality of climate change, human health, environmental just

ice, waste management, and pollution aspects of plastics and the petrochemical industry. We aim to take actions that DIRECTLY reduce the amount of plastic waste in our town, support the health of our environment, and the overall wellbeing of our community. We are two people who met by chance and decided to work together on campaigns that we believe in. For more information on the New Hampshire Network for Environment, Energy and Climate (NECC) visit their website at New Hampshire Network.

🌧️ Rainwater Rescue for Urban Yards
Turn every storm into a resource — not runoff.

1. SLOW
• Use check-dams, swales, and berms to pause fast roof runoff.
• Each break gives water time to soak instead of flood.

2. SPREAD
• Rain barrels and rain gardens share water across the yard.
• Overflow paths guide it gently toward plant roots.

3. SINK
• Infiltration pits and permeable soil pull water deep underground.
• Stored moisture feeds trees, shrubs, and pollinator gardens.

💧 Each drop you keep out of the drain strengthens your soil,
reduces flooding, and supports urban wildlife. 🌿

An important and eloquent article from our very own Ann Podlipny. We hope you'll take a moment to read about the great work being done right here in the river in our backyard.

"The river is a living ecosystem that has as much of a right to thrive as we do. In fact, human survival depends on healthy ecosystems such that protection of nature’s rights, in turn, advances human rights and well being."

"Microplastics seem to be everywhere—in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. They have turned up in human organs, blood, testicles, placentas, and even brains."

State-level initiatives to tackle microplastics are starting to influence policymakers in Washington.
