Remember Berry? Look at her now! ❤️
Berry is now 5 months old, and this incredible little red Lab continues to amaze us.
Born with a severe spinal deformity, Berry was originally brought to a veterinarian by her breeder to be euthanized. Instead, she was given a chance, and she has spent the last few months showing us exactly what she can do with it.
When Berry first arrived, she had very little control of her back end and even struggled with her front legs. We thought a wheelchair might be part of her future.
Well... Berry had other plans.
Today, she no longer needs her wheelchair! She’s building lots of muscle in those back legs and getting around on her own. Does she walk a little like a drunk toddler? Absolutely. 😂 But she is mobile, happy and doing amazingly well.
Berry is still incontinent for the most part. She’s learning to use puppy pads, but she has a ways to go, so for now, diapers are simply a way of life. Her future family needs to be comfortable with that and understand that her medical needs may change as she grows.
Her spinal condition cannot be surgically corrected, but Berry is currently comfortable and non-painful. Continued physical therapy and monitoring will be important throughout her life.
But please don’t let the medical stuff make you overlook the puppy in front of you.
Berry is happy, affectionate, playful, curious and full of life. She loves people (including kids), does well with dogs and cats, and definitely doesn’t know she’s any different.
She just needs someone who sees what we see: an amazing puppy who deserved her chance and is making the absolute most of it.
Now she needs her forever family.
Berry will come with age-appropriate vaccines and will be microchipped. Due to her medical condition, her spay will be delayed, and she will be adopted on a spay contract.
