Doris L. Patterson
December 12, 1945 – October 7, 2025
Doris L. Patterson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went to her spiritual home peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of seventy-nine. Born the youngest daughter of Aaron and Alberta Walker and twin to Ernest Walker; Doris was a positive force of warmth, kindness, strength, and generosity.
Doris was a devoted mother to Doris Patterson-Brown and LaMarke Patterson. She also found great joy in her role as the grandmother of Doris Taylor, Meredith Brown, LaMarke Patterson Jr., Joseph Patterson, and Jimmie Patterson as well as being a loving great-grandmother. Doris touched the lives of many with her sense of humor and was often referred to as “the life of the party,” Doris enjoyed entertaining and offering her gift of hospitality to everyone she met. She was dedicated to her career as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for which she received many accolades as well as her membership in the Nurses Unit of the First Baptist West Munden Church.
Doris was the mother of the chorus' chairperson, Doris Patterson-Brown. She was a fan of the Chesapeake Civic Chorus and attended every recital, winter, and spring concert for the last 12 years.
A viewing will be held at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake, VA 23324 on October 14, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The home going service will be held at First Baptist West Munden, 1541 Lyons Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23324 on October 15, 2025, at 10:30 am. Following the service, Mrs. Patterson will be laid to rest at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 1101 Campostella Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
